I was wondering if anyone out there had any tips on how to sort totes more quickly? My last TSG said it should take 26 minutes to sort totes, but by the time I:

split the pallets of crap so that I can get to the totes smashed underneath

separate the grocery items, checkstand candy, and cigarrettes from my items (I work in GM)

sort the totes by aisle

stack them up on a u-boat (4 rows of 5 totes each, usually)

separate the candy and cigarrettes

count the cigarrettes

I'm looking at upwards of an hour, hour and a half to do all that; not to mention cleaning up the mess I've made. When I have one pallet of totes that's about 6 high, 3 across and 2 deep (36 total, I think) and another one that's half that size, is there any possible way to sort them more efficiently?

what is TSG? Ask that person to please show you how it is done. i love it when people say "oh it should take so long" when they never done it themselves

Maybe in a perfect world where there's nobody in your way and you have plenty of empty trucks at your disposal and everything on the pallets is arranged in perfect order it might be possible, but this is Kroger we're talking about here.

It would also help if you were a robot.  Kroger doesn't want people working for them.  They want robots.

TSG is Team Stocking Guide. It's a piece of paper that tells us how long it should take us to do our jobs

Just...wow. I knew they did this to the stock crew but I didn't know they did this to DGM too. Oh, by the way...you don't HAVE to go as fast as those guides say. There is something in the contract about it...I can't remember exactly how it was worded though.

Right at this moment, I'm wishing we DID have a union at Wally.....Everything described above is exactly what our un loaders have to do----except they ARE timed on it. What you guys call totes, we call break packs, and we get in as many as 200 per night. EVERYTHING for those un loaders---including over night stockers---is timed on a computer. And this system does not take into account any variables, like customer assistance, spills, accidents, late trucks, etc.

Oh: and absolutely NO over time.....and by that, they mean so much as one click over your scheduled hours. What a cluster fk~

It's considered piece rate.  You are paid an hourly wage, not how many cases you can work an hour or what your ELMS score is.

One of the backup dept heads where I work adds stuff into the team stocking guides.  "Stressing out: 15 minutes, Anal probing: 30 minutes".  It freaks out the dept head because he's worried we are going to get in trouble for it.

You know they group all food and non food together. So if you have food items you know it's either diet food, nutrition products or grocery items. Cigarettes should be pulled off when the truck gets there, you gotta worry about theft etc. If managers aren't pulling off cigs, you should recommend that they do. Learn how to read the labels on the side of the totes. NUTR, GROC, S etc. They put the labels on for your benefit use them.

Checkstand candy is drug item where I work. Anyway, don't stress about it. It's never gonna be perfect, but you can save time by saying oh this looks housewares, boom put it on the housewares aisle. If it's not perfect no one will freak out.

Yeah, right? Now imagine fourteen cases of cosmetics/pharmacy/health n beauty aids all mixed together......with ONE HUNDRED ITEMS of furniture, home appliance and domestic department goods ALL mixed together.

And that's not including all the other 186 break packs that have similarly  mixed features~~~~`

i would not worry about getting things done faster, youll be fine. There are stupid idiot people that work at the store, they are called managers, and those people wouldn't have any power without their jobs, just like the police, adn who else ever. Take away their jobs, and I bet they will not act like asshoies anymore. So you see, it is not getting the totes done faster that you should be focusing on, it is getting the people fired that cause the problems. Maybe stupid idiot people will learn their lessons when they on the street with no food, or their credit get s ****ed up because they could not pay their bills.

**SIGH**.......I agree with what you say about salaried managers. There are some very cool, very nice ones; but the majority of them have little man complexes, and their jobs are the only feeling of power they have in their lives. Unfortuantely, tho, they're like **** roaches: they seem to survive anything!

Since when is the word, "****roach" considered to be obscene?

Oh my gosh, that's pathetic.  Let's try that again.  The area where the pilot and co-pilot control an aircraft is called the ****pit.  A rooster says **** a doodle doo.

Reminds me of that bit that Jimmy Kimmel does on unnecessary censorship.

Let's try this one.  It's a perfectly normal last name but it contains two obscene words in it: Glass****.
