i worked for kroger for a long time and i got back everything that was taken from me day by day by day like the johnnie cash song you guys can say what you want im retired now but lets just say i was the highest paid employee in the history of kroger. it wasnt easy lots of rookies went down around me and it was never the same stuff. thank you very much all
Thats what I was told, and thats kept hush-hush. Notice how some stores don't have Rent-A-Cops? THeyre not worried about shoplifting anymore. If you find a empty makeup container on the shelf, they scan it and the maker gives credit. I wa told this by a co-worker thats been with the co for many years 20-30, you know one of those who knows all the business of others and likes to keep up with the rumors. They live for that stuff.
actually kroger does loose everything that is stolen. u must work in the front end where nothing really happens. every item that is damaged do to theft is marked down at a lower price. all the items stolen is scaned by which ever department it belongs too for theft and we get no money for it. It's called S H R I N K........
Yep, but good ole Uncle Sam allows so much like 5-10k on shrink per tax filing. It used to be 5k per quarter years ago, I'm sure its increased over the last 10 years. Every grocery chain I've worked at is allowed a write-off loss for every income reporting.
This is a gimme by Uncle Sam and the State the store is in. So even if there isn't a loss that much, Kroger still writes it down and takes that break. SO if the actual loss is less, Kroger comes out ahead.
Also, they keep track of it by scanning out everything damaged. They name brand stuff is boxed up and sent to re-claim. Which is usually donated(written off on taxes) Kroger brand is marked down and sold for a percentage of the retail price. But recorded in scanning for the write off at retail price. So theres no lose in the long run. Thats why they keep track of all damaged with a computer. If they were truly concerned about SHRINK, then they'd quit stacking 400lbs of dog food ontop of crushable product and wrap the pallets so they aren't laying all over the rear of the trucks. SHRINK starts at the warehouse 1st. Plastering the store with SHRINK posters do no good if they tear it up before it gets there.

shoplifting got so bad down here in houston tx they started closing the stores at 1am and re-opening at 6am do to theft. but i know what you mean but trust me kroger does loose money not all of it but most of it.
I checked with the guy that runs the back door and does the damage scan outs and markdowns. He's been with Kroger for many moons. Even he said Kroger don't lose money. Name brand is 80% Credit to the store. Then its boxed in banana boxes and sent to re-claim where its donated. Its scanned at retail cost and donated at retail cost. But we don't buy for our warehouse at retail cost, we buy wholesale from distributors by the truck loads then sent to the many stores. If its not in the reset or discontinued it doesn't go back to reclaim, the store marks it down then sales it there, but its still scanned out at shelf price or retail price. Its almost like selling it to Uncle Sam at retail.
Store brand is marked down at usually 50% but credited shelf price. The store gets 50% credit then the mark down sale. And we make alot of profit on storebrand. Checkout the BigK brand,we're making a killing it.
He even said these guys are Jewish, theyre shrewd business men as we all know, darn good at making a buck, so they got it figured out. They won't lose no money.
I don't know all the factors in closing the stores at night but they do cut the lights down at 12a. I worked at a store chain that started closing at 11pm. But it was due to not wanting to pay for a cashier and night stock premium of $.50. We had to come in at 3pm till 11pm then reopen at 7am. Now that sucked. I know theres shoplifting that happens late night, the foot traffic is very low with just a handful of transients, trolls and kids coming in, I've found more half eat'en stuff and empty GM wrappers from the day time sales. So if they wanted to stop the theft theyd have to close down during the day and that wont happen.
