You can't be to that you "may get fired". While Kroger doesn't condone its employees chasing after shoplifters, I seriously doubt any kind of disciplinary action will occur.  At the most, you will be told not to chase after shoplifters again.

Not sure why my first post didnt show up, anyhow in short
1.If you are required to appear in court on behalf of the Kroger Company, you will be paid according to the union contract. This is whether you testify or not.
2.If you have jury duty, and you present the appropriate forms stating you missed work due to jury duty, you will be paid.

Lesson learned. Do the job your hired to do. Security is left up to those hired for that. People and CO's sitting in front of the camera and watching shoppers all day is their job. Go put the eggs or milk or fruit loops in the shelf. If you see someone stuff a roast down their pants, ask'em if they'd like paper or plastic. Don't get stabbed or shot over a damn video or pack of bologna.

Kroger throws away more money than walks out the door and writes it off on taxes with Uncle Sam. They purchase tons of stock carts because some ******* wants to load them up in the racks with dead stock , throw tons down the dumpster in dairy and frozen, pay 30+ year employees high wages with old union contracts doing only half their job with 2 months vacation a year.

SO they're voluntarily willing to throw that money away, so why put yourself in harms way to recover a a item that'll go into evidence and be marked off on taxes anyway?

Just turn your head and walk on and do what your hired to do.Let them take care of shoplifters.

You can't actually touch them to apprehend them. That should have been noted somewhere in your training.

ain't your problem bro...that $4 pack of meat or whatever that the shopper took, if you stopped them would you get a bonus, or a reward, or a raise for saving that $4...no...kroger doesn't give a **** if they are hemorrhaging money. kroger loses more money from stuff going past date or getting broken in the stockroom anyways

I have caught two shoplifters and my co-manager told I would have to stop chasing them. We have a lot of beer runs on the weekends and I am a floor supervisor and one young guy ran out a couple of weekends ago and I chased him to the parking lot and asked him were his reciet was and he said Ido not know what you are talking about.  He dropped the beer and I recovered it.    The next weekend someone ran out with a whole shopping cart full of grocies and I went out to the parking lot where he was loading the groceries into a car I asked for his reciet and he jumped into the car and drove off.  I got his tag number and my co-manager told me I have to stop chasing after them.  I didn't even get a race card for this.  They still want you to watch supucious people (at least in our store)  but is it worth it.  The self scan girl use to work the 12 am to 6 am shift a couple of people double teamed her and pushed her when she opened the uscan draw it was on the news and everything now she will not work that shift which I do not blame her.  Come to think of it last halloween time when we were having the halloween stuff for the kids the bank got robbed on that day and now it's time for the time again.  I hope they remember that.

I'm guessing you're not employed any more. Against kroger's policy.

At our store we CANNOT physically stop a shoplifter. We could be injured or worse. They may even sue.

Even security CANNOT put hands on them. They can observe and write down info only.

I miss the days when shoplifters could have reasonable force used against them if necessary.

 Back on topic:

There was this guy in a home dept (I forget where) that worked security. He calmly took a toolbox out of a female shoplifters hands and she seemingly left without incident. Came back later that day, walked to that same guy shot him in the chest and then walked off. I believe he died, and she was arrested.

And us workers are STILL supposed to be smiling?   After that?
Had a customer say something about getting my people.  We took that as a serious threat.
