hey i got a good topic i'd love to hear from you all about.

suppose that you are a department back-up.  one day you get called to the office and you are bombarded by the store manager, your co-manager and your department head.  maybe they tell you how unhappy they are over your work. maybe they do the basic yada-yada. after sitting there taking their crap for 10 minutes they decide it is best to demote you back to a staff position.

so here is my question.  can you refuse? can you say "well look - you asked me to become a backup, sent me off to training which i passed, gave me your blessing, and i am working hard at it. so now you wish to shove the kroger fist up my a$$!" "i will not step down nor will i sign the paper to do so."

i'm not in this situation but you never know with kroger.  i see employees folding their hand a little to easy at times b/c they just do no know their proper rights and channels.  give me your feedback. love to hear what you would do.

do you actually get paid more to be backup? Or just stripping you of your ranking. Meat has a "backup" with no extra pay. Doubt its worth it

they can try to step you down but if you have a good union steward they will not let that happen.. i got ****ed over a couple years ago they did it when my union steward wasn't there.. but the funny thing now is that the dept head got fired for stealing time a couple months later

You should have requested your "Weingarter Rights" during this meeting. If I had been in the position I would have requested my union UFCW rep to be present at this meeting. Why? Because it involves you being disciplined. Management will not advise you of your rights on this.

I'm a grocery head stock at a Kroger store.  Just a few days ago, I was taken upstairs by a co-manager and told that the store manager (who was noticeably absent) wanted to demote me and replace me with someone else, with no notice or prior coaching or anything like that.  After some digging, I found out that the store manager had a choice between losing that other employee and giving him my position.  It's clear which one he chose.  I've just called my union rep for the second time this week to attempt to file a grievance.  I've got to say that during my time as a head stock at Kroger, I have been nothing but harassed by the store manager since day one.  I am hoping to put this to rest finally, but I keep hearing he's in tight with the union.  Any advice?

Grocery Managers are really nothing other than "the head putter upper guys." Also know as "patsy's"or "Fall Guys" when the crap ideas that management comes up with don't work.

I believe that management can't be in the union. I've never run across a store manager or co or assistant that were members of the union. But I know Grocery Managers can be in the union.hummmmmmmmm.

You have a right a a Union Representative present during ANY disciplinary action or meeting with management.

Have they given you any write ups in the past?  Chances are they haven't.  You need to call your union rep...pronto
