i assume you are a bagger, well, I work in receiving and what I tell the baggers is this: perishable items go to their respective departments, not in the dsd area. Also, for those odd items that you just can't find, drop them randomly in produce, drug/GM or somewhere similar, (let them deal with it!)

At my store, we have a rack with handbaskets on it - each one is labelled with the aisle number and a small list of general stuff in the aisle. That way, just throw things in the basket and it's nice and organized. (Also have 3 baskets for Damaged, Produce, and Deli/Meat/Bakery non refrigerated). Although people pile everything in a cart, it really is a lot easier to find everything when you just take a basket at a time. A little more walking back and forth, but still faster. And herbert is right, if it's a weird drug/gm item just leave it with their stuff, they won't get mad you couldnt find it.

Yes Yes we will get mad
This dropping off in random places can get the bagger written up
and if I see it I will tell a manager
Of course this is the normal lazy attitude of the receiver.

As our store, any cold go backs are brought to the attention , of the department, to come and get them right away. If not then they are instructed to take meat right to the market and place it in the cutting room/wrapping area. Clerks, placing back lunch meat, we just tell them to get it in the right area, and we will handle it. Do not need to see a clerk standing there looking stupid and trying to find a particular item. Have seen clerks bring back damaged meat (or worse yet returns from customers) and just place them back in the meat counter where they can be picked back up for resale. Has a dumb ass clerk trying to fins a place to put smoked sausage back on the shelf and I told him to just throw it in my cart with trash and damaged. He was determined to place it where it was  to go. Took him several minutes before he realized that it was a private label but for Wal-Mart and not Kroger.

@grumpy, on a similar note. our local walmart had some Kroger beef for sale here recently. Someone was over there shopping and sent the picture out, I had to go see it for myself and sure enough there it was right beside their beef, it had a whole facing

Your odd ball stuff is going to be in odd ball places. If you don't find it right away don't waste all day looking for it. You'll spot it eventually.

All I do is when I see some of the kids doing go-backs, I try to let them know where things go if they seem puzzled about something. As far as meat items go, we just have them bring it back to us and we place it back where it goes.

When I use to be bagger and I couldn't find an odd difficult item I put put it where I thought it should go. It's NOT laziness, who honestly has the time to spend 'hours and hours' looking for one difficult item's place?
