Well you see there are certain things a person who is an employee needs to monitor.
One that someone isn't stealing. Two carding people that buy alcohol and cigarettes. Imputing coupons.
Helping with errors and customer service.
These would not get done if that person wasn't there. And a lot of the time uscan is in front of the entrance so they monitor the alarms.
I'm not front end and I know cashiers really have it easy compared to breaking down trucks etc. but really the only people that call them lazy are just mad they don't have that position.
Anyway they normally give it to the 50 year old women.

Or big fat black men who weigh 400lbs. like our store. Smelly, stuffing their face, running around in their socks and sitting in the bank branches chair all night. Been there for 30+ years and drawing Double Time and 1/2 on Sat nites. All the while everyone else has to work like "Freezer Rats" and run around getting squeezed for more productivity by todays standard.

Reminds me of the movie Full Metal Jacket when the sarge finds the donut in fatboys locker and stuffs it in his mouth and says "You eat it, their paying for it"

Thats exactly whats going on in our store. Yea it makes people mad. Its almost like a discrimination of sort. Expect more from others and nothing from those making twice to 3x more.

i'm a cashier & love working uscan. until you learn to do it, it may look like being lazy, but there is a lot to do. We have 6 registers at my store and I work the afternoon/evening shifts so it's always busy busy busy. Helping customers (usually 3-6 people needing help at once) with coupons, their orders, answering questions, price checks, dealing with a LOT of stupid people (due to there being 6 registers and so many people thinking they're smarter than they are, you see a LOT more idiots on uscan lol), dealing with mechanical errors and reboots of the registers, cleaning, monitoring purchases, theft, getting IDs, checking the alarm at the door, bascarts and handbaskets to the entrance, and then in the middle of it all you need to monitor your till and take the time to count it all and recount if it's not matching up properly. Also sometimes I have to jump on a regular register AND run uscan at the same time. If the person at your store is sitting there falling asleep, they are NOT doing their job.

Honestly guys, The cashiers have the most stressful position.  It may not seem like it but when you guys arent doing your jobs checking to make sure product is in the same spot they have to fix the errors. Besides that, they also have to make the customer happy. They are the only reason you get a paycheck.  I understand why youd feel upset. But honestly the attendant at the USCAN really doesnt like being over there.  So when the customers complain, its the cashier that hears about it.  Not you guys. As a Supervisor at 982 I understand the situation but I'm not impressed with you calling your fellow associates lazy.  Its not called for.  And frankly if you feel that way maybe you really shouldnt be working at our store.

james, i wouldn't say that the front end people have the most important job at the store.  Everyone's job is important, it's like a chain.  The person who unloads the trucks has an effect on how all the other department's day will go.  Imagine you're working frozen, dairy, meat and your truck is shoved in the cooler and you can't move around, well you're day isn't starting off good.  I use this example because I do this, as the DSD receiver if someone's cooler isn't ready for a truck due to laziness, I will shove the new truck in the cooler, my reply to them is they should be ready for a truck (it only takes a minute!).  So piss off whoever unloads your trucks and you'll have it hard too.  if it weren't for us unloading the trucks, departments would have no product and the customer would have no use coming in our store, so for that reason, I'd say the receiver is the most important job along with the stocking departments.  We are the ones who make the sales by suggesting products.  Cashiers and baggers simply finish the transactions, now a good transaction will make the customer want to return, so they are also important, but without product we wouldn't have customers.  Product is not unloaded by cashiers or baggers so i don'tbelieve they are the MOST important.

Damn people. Its the frickin grocery store!!!!!! Its a food store.. and theres many, many food stores

Its a sh#t job. Its not some important job. Your not a cop,a doctor or nurse. You don't answer 911 calls or put out fires. If you run out of Fruit Loops someone doesn't die. Its frickin slidin groceries and unloading a truck. Any trained porch monkey can do it. Its a job for people who can't or couldn't make it anywhere else. THeres tons of grocery stores and haji marts all around.

Its not like your building a rocket ship or something.

Geez, Have any of you people ever done anything but stock shelfs or serve those other kind of people with more respectable jobs. Its a uncle tom position with the only one in the store that makes a killing is the store manager.

God, some of you are real sad. Face reality and admit it.

Oh, I know!!!! How DARE these people actually work an honest job for a living.  I mean, REALLY?  Why waste your time working when you can just go on welfare or something.  Or maybe you could sell drugs for a living.  I can't believe these people work at a grocery store and have the audacity to expect people to have respect for them.  And obviously, you must have the most important job in the entire world, and of course, you have worked in a grocery store yourself so you know exactly what these people do day after day.

hey it's not that we think our job is more important than another,  this is something they have done on purpose to make us fight amongst ourselves.  The problem in this company is that the higher up's don't realize that this is not a life or death job, it's a freakin grocery store but they make big hassles over the most miniscule job and they try to find reasons to advocate their job,  grocery stores seem to have gotten worse, back in the day i bet it would have been a dream job now they want to act like it's a high class job when in reality it's not.   Only reason i still work for this company is the decent benfits and i've got lots of tenure.  do i think about looking for another job?  every single day.

TO me a good job is one you love to do and enjoy going into each day.

Not take a pistol whipping each day as rather than go in.

Sorry but Kroger isn't one of those "good job" places. The only person in a grocery store thats well to do and gungho is the STORE MANAGER. He's the only one thats gonna make it big time due to bonus's and salary. Hell our store manager retired and I;m told he lives in a million dollar home. All the while he screwed over the actual laborers cutting hours, not hiring replacements and having the remainder take up the slack.

The more you do, they more they'll give you to do.

good point!  ^^   You know who really gets the shaft at K-roger, is the frozen food people.  The dairy manager gets head pay and his job isn't as hard as the frozen job.  All the dairy managers I've known have been really laid back, well that's because they don't have a whole lot to deal with like other depts.  Now the frozen guys have to bust their asses in the freezer and only get paid minimum wage, that's bull crap!  same responsibility as any other dept manager but without compensation.  basically it's the b***h job and I have a lot of respect for those guys because I know what they have to deal with!

as a cashier at kroger it must be people like you who come in my line and think you're better than me.  you know, i don't need welfare, and i realize if it weren't for people like me to fake a smile and a nice greeting for an ass like you, you would have no one at all to think you are better than.  i am not a porch monkey, i'm not stupid, lame, lazy, etc.... i'm there to be verbally abused by people like you and i have to admit i'm paid pretty well to suck it up and come to work every day... i'm not sucking off your tax money with a food card so lay off and piss off.

As a UC, buah I am right there with you Anon. I'm gosh damn lucky my store is a friendly environment (mostly) so smiling and friendly isn't that hard as long as I remember "X more hours, X more hours til I'm off..." But I generally am a friendly person, so it's only when I get a-holes or idiots that tend to get me worked up and angry at them. But noooooooooo, beating the tar out of a jerk off customer out back by the docks with a shopping cart or the end of a broom, mop, pallet, or frozen item "isn't the acceptable way to vent one's anger properly." Big idiots, especially the he**hole drivers who I have to cater to sometimes on carts cause "its about me, so I get the right of way. Who gives a fudge if I was way far away from you and just rolled up now behind you, get out of the way" and other times it's me saying "you better stop buddy or I'm going to stop you myself, I don't give a fudge, you see me way up in front of you, you let me by or these carts will be in your vehicle when I "lose control!"

Oh that product spilled, let me get that for you. You wanted an item, let me help find it for you. You crapped on the floor, sure you're going to make me super damn WTF is wrong angry with you, but hey at least I get to do something then be in FE / carts sometimes if the idiots are around and lurking (as long as I can keep said idiots out of my way and away from said accident while I clean it up.)

Back wen I started in Dec. I though FE was a picnic, well I certainly got (and am still getting) my "welcome to rehe$%" package. (at least the customers and other FE staff who I work with make it enjoyable and fun to go to work and actually think "well it's only a few hours, what could go wrong.")

furiousNot only are these comments

Cruel, Malicious and Attacks Women of over a certain age.  NOT Cool.   I work my ass off at work a my u-scan while I watch flappy little 18 year olds that our 35 year mammas and daddas didnt raise up with an ounce of respect for work ethics (They are lazy, on phones taking Pictures of themselves at work)     One thing I have learned is the ones that yell and scream the most in the U-scan area 9 times out of 10 are the ones getting caught shoplifting.  They are attempting to show a seen in hopes that the manager will allow them to go on without moving their bags around or checking their receipt.  How many of you get cursed at (In your face and Threaten at times too) least twice a day by customers for things out of your control.

Kroger Could just close the U-scan area and make all the customers go through a line like we are did 25 years ago... quit being Cruel... God Have Mercy on You All.
