when you ask a customer if they need something

You know when a customer is lookin for something, and you are either really bored or just want them outta your way so you ask them if they need help finding something. and when they say no, they tend to give you a long explanation as to why they dont need help. dont they realize that as soon as you hear no..you are no longer listening to them. idk why they feel they need to give you anything other than a no in response to do you need help because u're already back to tunin things out before they even complete sayin no.

I am a cashier at krogers here in kentucky, for the most part people tend to say no because they feel you really dont want to help them anyway. What really ticks me off is rude customers, especially when you ask for ID when they are making a beer purchase.
