Do any of you buy into this new ELMS program for cashiers? I mean it seems good in theory but can anyone really accomplish the goals they set for the cashiers? I think that it is a bunch of crap. Give your insights and when I have time, I will post mine....
The cashier ELMS program is good in theory, and in practice, if you have the right people who know that you have to be consistantly fast, not overbearing fast, but fast enough to get all the routine transactions through, then it will work.
Its the cashiers that cannot complete routine transactions such as tax exempt and split tenders that slow up the process and make the company look like they hire morons (they do). I don't know, all these programs dont change how I perform my job, I will continue to do the best I can with what I have in the time I am doing it.
The Kroger ELMS program is one of the more inefficent programs that the company has ever implemented. I started out as a cashier, and I can tell from experience that customer service on the front end is COMPLETLEY DESTROYED by cashiers who are worried about their ELMS scores. With an overbearing front end manager entirely to concerned with ELMS breathing down your back, "hi, how are you?, do you have your Kroger card with you today?, did you find everything alright?, is there anything else I can do for you today?" gets either forgoten or is mumbled in so rude or careless a tone that it becomes abrasive to the customers. I am more than glad I got off the front end and that ELMS is no longer a concern for me. Its nice to be able to give excellent customer service on the sales floor and personally get to know regular customers. That makes the job fufilling.
