Fired for taking a bad coupon
Permalink

My step-daughter worked at a cashier at Kroger for over 2 years.  Last night the manager called her into his office and fired her (with a union steward present) for taking a bad coupon from the a customer on two occasions.  She never got any warnings prior to the firing.  The other third shift cashier also got fired for taking the same coupon from the same customer on another night.

How is this even permissable?  What the hell is the union for if they cant even fight for a kid who had an impeccable record up to this point, even walked to work when the snow was too deep to drive, and then gets fired for taking a falsified coupon?  How the hell was she supposed to know it was falsified!!!!  The other guy didnt catch it either, and he gets fired too?  This is insane!

Wow, all we've ever gotten here was a slap on the wrist and were told to make sure to look through the binder of counterfeits every once in a while.

You should've known better. Don't use coupons at Kroger.

I had a write-up once for taking a falsified coupon. The reason that I was written up was because instead of punching in the barcode on the coupon, I had just hit (vendor coupon/amount of discount/department key), which would have been fine on a coupon that had come out of the newspaper, but on an internet coupon, I was told that I had to be more careful. My supervisor showed me that when she punched in the barcode of the coupon that I had taken. It said "FRAUDULENT COUPON" on the display screen instead of taking off an amount. Her supervisor should have done this instead of assuming that she knew that it was a fake coupon and had taken it on purpose. If you don't show someone what they are doing wrong, how are they supposed to know?

What you had there was probably a "newbie" manager and a union stewart who nothing about what they were doing. They are supposed to get a warning first. Your step-daughter SHOULD be brought back with back-pay! Seriously...! Look into this

used to, the union was very on the ball, about terminations.

firstn a verbal warning, then a note to file, then three write ups, for the same offence.

now, the union is there for show.

i got fired for two, unrelated right ups, no warnings,. it all depends on if they want you gone

I once had to fire four people in one night. It was over a brawl between them in the soft lines dept., of all things.....Other than that, over the years I've only had to give out two write-ups (coachings we call 'em ....silly-ass name). I have been pressured to 'get' an employee or two, but I've always been able to turn them around.

Not all management is out with a vendetta.
