Hey all, I've had a question for a little while that none of my managers have really been able to answer, so I decided I'd make a post here and try my luck :)
Sometime next year (hopefully August) I'm planning to move from California to Arizona on order to attend college in the area. According to the school's rules, If I'm transferred within a company, I am eligible for in state residency fees. This would also secure me a job when moving to a new place which would be a huge plus in this economy. The problem is that my chain is So. Californa only. So my question is:
Is it possible to transfer from a Ralph's Fresh Fare to a Fry's Food and drug? And if so, who would I go through? My current grocery chain's HR department, or someone in Kroger Inc?
Any help would be greatly appreciated!
you'd need to check and make sure that there is a job opening at the place you're planning to move to. You'd want to contact your HR and see what they recommend and if they could get you a job sheet for a local market in that area.

Yes you can. Simple as that. I worked for Ralphs in California and just recently transferred to Kroger in Texas (Kroger is what the store is called in Texas).
What you do first is notify your store manage of your plans so they are aware. Then find a store located within the area you want to move to in Arizona, call the store and tell the store manager what your plans are and ask them if they have room in there store for you to transfer there. Assuming they do, tell your store manager you will be transferring there, they should have their own process they need to complete, and you will need to notify your HR about the transfer so they can start it.
As a precaution, your going to want to make sure the transfer process is started on both ends, not just Ralph's side. Call Fry's HR and make sure the process has started as well. The process takes a about a month to complete, so you wont need to start it until the month before you move out there, but still make sure to let both your manager, and the Fry's manager, know the time frame everything will be occuring.

I will be moving to Texas also from California in August. I found a store that will take me in August. My only concern is that I am full time. Will they try to take that away? Where in Texas are you?
I have a question for the persons that have moved from California to Texas. Does your pay changed a lot or is just a small difference? I'm planning to move to Houston next year but I'm saving first. Please let me know. Thank you
Hi, I am one that moved from Cali to Texas. I was on the low end of the scale at the time of transfer, but I left Kroger about 2-2.5 years ago. At that point, top out pay for a produce clerk was ~$14.50. So the difference may be about $5 an hour less.
Don't mean to reopen this thread but have pretty much the same question. I am currently an MOD Dairy Frozen for Roundy's and want to move back to the Houston area. Can I still keep my job title and pay if I transfer?
I think it really depends on the openings available where you are trying to go. More than likely (speaking from what I know about unions, even though TX is a right to work state), you will be able to keep your title and at least pay equivalent from where you are coming. I would first call stores in the are you are moving to and ask about positions available you are trying to transfer in to or if they could make room.
