Screwed over with transfer
Permalink

I got screwed over when I transfered to another store cause it was closer to my house plus my mom has severe heart problems and dad severe back and heart problems. I got this job as a cashier in july. I asked for the transfer back in mid august and they said it would take a month. It was november when I got transfered. I lost my seniority. They never told me that would happen cause I never got a union book. THey hired 4 new cashiers for the store I was transferring to a month before they "decided"it was ok for me to go.

stop blaming others for your actions. go find the union steward to get your union book. go ask the union steward and store manager specific questions about the transfer process before you decide to transfer. go into the other store prior to your arrival and check it out. if you dont like what you see then don't go.

sorry to hear about your parents.....

Then buck up and take some damn responsibility. You're not a child anymore, so don't expect us to hold your hand like a child. I could give two sh!ts that you are only 18 and it's your first job. You failed to to the research so you reap the consequences. Remember the 6P's/1R: Piss poor planning produces piss poor results. You've just learned it the hard way.

kroger screws over yet another person, so well lets blame the employee, because they diddn;t rersearch it?

KROGER knew damn well they were doing it wrong, they broke thier own rules. a handbook, only gives you proof

kroger is stilll at fault, for breaking it's own policy.

when did this place get so rude, anyway?

he got screwed over. he and kroger are both at fault. him for not properly reading everything and kroger for being a bitch. **** happens and you do the best with what you're given. We wish him the best of luck and hope he learns his lesson about dealing with these sorts of situations in the future and move on.

i'm not seeing it? what did kroger do wrong in this scenario...

I got screwed over when I transfered to another store cause it was closer to my house plus my mom has severe heart problems and dad severe back and heart problems.  <not much info here cept an employee says he wants to transfer closer to home due to family medical problems & he feels he got shafted or did he?>

I got this job as a cashier in july. <relatively new employee>

I asked for the transfer back in mid august and they said it would take a month. <asking and putting it in writing are two separate things. who did you ask? you say "they" when you mentioned it woulld take a month but was that really one person or the whole entire store? i ask to be wisked away from the crazy deli employees i work with just about every day. but do i make it official?>

It was november when I got transfered. <ok so once again when did you make your transfer official? probably not in august huh?>

I lost my seniority. <how were you hired in? are you sure you lost it? you just got transferred and it takes some time for your files to go from one store to the other.>

They never told me that would happen cause I never got a union book. <maybe you are barking up a tree for no reason. chill out and go look into it. who told you that you lost your seniority? union books are not passed out like hymnals at church - go ask the union steward for one>

THey hired 4 new cashiers for the store I was transferring to a month before they "decided"it was ok for me to go. <if the store needs cashiers they got to hire them. school kid cashiers went back to school. gotta keep the place staffed.>

point is... i dont know how you handled it on your end.  did you follow protocal to expedite your request quickly?  in a few short sentences we are trying to side or not side with this employee.  but reading between the lines maybe there is much more to the story....

They may not have broken policy. He said he got the job in July, and thus is low seniority. He asked to transfer after a month and half, and in some contracts you don't even have transfer rights that quick, even as a closer to home. As a matter of fact, under the Indianapolis clerks contract, (see section 11.24-11:24) he doesn't have transfer rights at all because he has less than a year of service to transfer in over new applicants, and less than 2 years of service for a closer to home transfer. In that case, the ability to transfer is purely at the discrestion of management. Granted, his contract maybe slightly different, but this is an example. They likely didn't have to transfer him, and did when they got around to it to help the kid out. This kid should have been keeping up on this every day and should have been talking to both stores to ensure he was going to be in a good situation. Not doing that isn't the fault of the company, it's HIS fault.

tl;dr - He didn't get screwed over, management still did him a favor by transfering him and he should stop crying about it. Also, don't be too quick to blame the company.

there is.first of all I'm a girl, second of all the told me 1 MONTH.NOT 4. My seniority was dropped because they took forever putting the transfer through saying one more week one more week over and over again. I asled for more hours they the new store I'm at said no. They have 29 cashiers which half dont even work because they don't need that many.

Either way, you asked for a transfer after ONE MONTH. You ought to be glad they entertained that idea at all, because in most cases you have to have one year or more in before you gain the rights to transfer. They didn't have to give you one at all. Also, are you full time? Were you ever? In some contracts your seniority does not matter with part time status. There is so much more here to the story that would complete it, but I still say on the surface you weren't screwed over but are simply a victim of a) not enough research/planning b) a dumba** union and contract and c) a boneheaded management group in each store. Really plenty of blame to go around.
