Sneaking full time status.

I work in produce and Ive been working for kroger for just over 5 years. my produce manager wants me to get full time and he says I would have to work 8 consecutive weeks at 40 hours to get it. I've already completed 5 weeks. there isn't technically a full time position available. So we're trying to pull a hail Mary. If it works. Could they take it away from me? Is there a wage increase? I'm tired of getting 8.00 dollars in hour with 5 plus year dedicated to the company. I'm an outstanding employee. Get compliments and work my tail off. I work full time hours as is so hope this works. I've got another dilemma too. I go to college and work part time at another job. I've been working 60 hours plus a week but my manager fits me in to get 40 hours a week. So if I do get full time, can they strip it from me because of availability issues? Please read and give me insight on this with all of my questions. It would be of great help. One more other thing. My department already has three full time ppl working In it. Produce manager, co, and another clerk. Hope all these factors help with the situation presented.

i believe the policy is, "full time status has to have open availability"

in addition, whenever a part-time employee approaches the average weekly hours to default to full time, management gets and email from corporate that says "they have too many hours, cut them" and the next week you only get 30 hours tops. dept heads and store mgmt get railed if they let someone go full-time without approval.

I doubt they'll let your contractual full-time status come to fruition by just forgetting about the rules and letting you work the required full-time weeks.

Availability will come in as well, they will request complete open availability, and if you dont have it, they'll cut your hours.

We don't have contract-based full time status in the Portland area contract. Positions are either PT or FT. PT positions are guaranteed 20 hours per week, but you may get more hours per week.

Like I have 7 employees plus me. Three of us are FT, so we always get 40 hours scheduled. I have one part timer who gets 32 hours every week basically, and sometimes 40 if someone requests days off in particular or is sick, etc. Another PT guy gets around 30, and the rest in the 20's. Theres no "chance" of working 40 hours for a set number of weeks and then magically becoming FT. Theres only the Manager (me) Assistant (someone) and a FT clerk spot (someone) in my department, so one of us would have to leave for someone to get a FT spot.

Our contract supplies health insurance at 80 hours a month, and luckily we do NOT schedule less than that. Nobody is told to keep people out of benefits, and would probably be yelled at by HR if they were! Of course fewer hours means fewer dollars contributed into those accounts, but employees still get their full benefits.

What would likely happen is they would have to eat the hours if you reach full time status or you could pull seniority and take someone else's hours. I wouldn't recommend that though. If you do get full time status you could probably quit the other part time job.

Thank you guys for your advice. I will keep y'all updated on the ordeal. Cross your fingers for me. Today starts week 6. So they will probably be getting the email soon if they hadn't already gotten it. I will cut the other part time job if full time became available and have open availability. Is it advisable to join the union in case **** hits the fan? Is there a pay raise when you obtain full time? Like I said I've been here for 5+ years and get shafted at 8 dollars in hour. I will pray that I slip through the cracks.

Yes if you do get official FT status, drop the PT job, or chat with whoever writes your schedule and maybe coordinate between the two. If they consistently gave you particular days off maybe you could work the other job then, or whatever.

As for pay 5 years and you're STILL at 8 an hour? Had you previously worked a very limited schedule? Starting from the bottom our pay scale maxes someone out within about 3 years if they are working 32-40 a week.

You may get a little pay bump from becoming a FT clerk, but check your union contract to see what the scale is, and if the # of hours you have worked is properly reflected in that. Also yes, join the union anyway. For one you are using their services and are not paying for them right now. Also they will stick their neck out a bit more for paying members. Damn right to work bull****.

This is what happened. I was a bagger making 6.15 an hour back in 2006. I worked nearly full time so I didn't want to advance because I made more then any clerk just bc I had the hours available to me.after my first year with the company I eventually got another job and cut my hours down from around 35- 40 to 15-20 hours a week and did that for about 2.5 years. I quit that part time job and continued being a bagger for around 5 more months. So at this point I had been with the company for 4 years and I was bringing minimum wage. The only raises I got was when minimum wage increased. So anyone who ever started after me was making identical to me which was bs. Then after those 5 months I switched to produce. Picked up significantly more hours and have been in produce for about a year and a half. I got a small raise when I initially switched to produce and Been getting 10 cent raises here and there. I am 24 in college and I need all the hours I can work which ****s up my grades but I need the money. Baggers must not get raises bcuz like I said I only got the minimum wage increase those two times in a 4 year span of being a bagger. So overall I've been with the company for about 5 1/2 years. My produce manager is working around my new jobs schedule to still continue scheduling me forty hours bc he knows Ive been getting shafted this whole time. Minimum wage is what 7.55 an hour. I make 8 dollars even for all these years I've slaved for Kroger. Plz pray for me. I want so bad to make decent money here bcuz I really love the job though. I'd ask the unit manager but he probably doesn't have the power for a raise. So my produce manager and I are just gonna sneak it. And hopefully it works. Pray for me ya'll.

To fishy again and the rest. I will join the union and get the union contract and familiarize myself to it. The past 6 months I've been working 30-40 hours a week with a few exceptions when they cut hours and what not. But recently like I said I've been getting many hours soaks my produce manager doesn't want to Lose me so that's y we're gonna at least try this. I'd be happy making 10-11 dollars in hour. Hell I know how to do everything pretty much. From ordering, backstock review, making signs, mark downs, I've learned the register for gay ass 1+1. I make Kroger **** tons of money on cut fruit because I'm a ****ing beast at cutting the fruit. I'm just tired of feeling unappreciated as far as pay but I do get positive feedback about my work ethic. My managers can count on me and hopefully they will have an "oversight" when they get that dreaded email as a favor to me for all of my hard work.

Baggers coded in as baggers do not get raises, true. When you were moved into produce you should have been coded in as a produce clerk which would entitle you to a raise, which happened. After that you would get a raise every 6 months or after so many hours working(contract dependant), which seems to be happeneing.

Good luck.

With my union contract in order to get full time status, you need to work twelve consecutive weeks with more than 36 hours. once you get that, your full time status cannot be taken away from you. Furthermore, nobody with part-time status would be able to bump your schedule. However, you have to get all twelve weeks consecutively and HR usually recieves notifications if someone is one to two weeks away from getting full time status. If that happens and they catch it your store manager or HR person might drasticly cut your hours to keep you from full time status. Just be careful and don't let anyone other than people you really can trust know
that you are working more hours, cause a lot of people will try to screw you out of it if they have more senority, or don't like you, etc. Also, when you get full time on my contract, you get $0.30 raises every six months unless you are making under $8 an hour, then you only get $0.10. Good luck

I've did 6 weeks now. But had to get slight overtime but I'm on track. Will overtime hours count toward full Time. Because without the overtime I wouldn't have gotten 40 hours.

I did it ya'll. Worked 40 hours 8 straight weeks and got full time. So working 40 hours at Kroger and 24 at the other job I haven't had a day off in a month but I got full time and a raise. Plus, better news. The produce assistant manager is leaving and I will be taking his place. I think that's y management let it slide bc they knew I would just end up getting it anyway. Omg I'm soooo happy. Thanks y'all. Hope this reaches ya'll

I have been scheduled for 40  hours, even had overtime of 0.25. was told overtime hours did not work towards the 40 hours. After subtraction this I found I had only work 39.55 hours! This is over a period of twelve weeks. Last week I had 25.5 hours this week scheduled for 28 hours, also after looking at my schedule which listed others working in the department I saw that others not in my department are working in my department. makes me believe that I need to find another job.
