When I hit my 1 year mark as a front end clerk at Kroger on April 6 I was making $7.40.  I was never union to save a little extra dough in my wallet each payperiod.  Does anyone know if I have to be union in order to ask for $7.50?  Should I expect $7.50 now, even as non-union?  $7.40 is still showing as my pay rate in most recent pay stub.

yes that was a point I was making in a past post of this kid who I work with getting nickled and dimed on raises for the next 5 to 6 years.  He will be in his mid 20's by the time his pay at Kroger amounts to anything somewhat decent.  Hell by then he could go get a doctorates degree and do surgery for twice that much down in Mexico huh.

It's just another way for Kroger to fluch out employees every couple years or so and rehire new ones again back at minimum wage to have the cycle restart over.  At my deli, there are at least 10 of us that make the rich payscale of $13.60 / hr.  Therefore our hours are cut back so thin and Kroger would love to run us out so they can get three people for the price of two.  Simple math.

If you are a new hire at Kroger in the Detroit Metro area, the latest contract screws you big time.  Starting wage for all clerks and cashiers is $7.40/hr.  From there it goes as follows :

$7.50 after 1 year

$7.70 after 2 years

$8.50 after 3 years

$9.50 after 4 years

$10.50 after 5 years at which point you are at the top rate if you are part time.

If by some miracle you manage to get full time status, you get $12/hr after 6 years.

Also if you are part time, the most vacation time you will get is 2 weeks after 3 years.

Thanks UFCW and thank you Kroger.  I will definitely be looking for something better than this **** hole !
