A couple weeks ago I put in a two week at dillons which is owned by kroger and in my last week they tried to suspend me for refusing to tuck in my shirt. A couple of months ago they ordered fitted polo shirts and didn't make anyone tuck them in because they were to short and they constantly came untucked whenever you were stocking things. Then a month or two later they suddenly decided they were going to make us start tucking them in. When I was called into the office to be told i was being suspended. I argued with the manager and basically told him that I did my part, I worked hard, and that it was pretty ridiculous to be nagged at in my last week for something this petty and stupid. His exact words were "This isn't about your work ethic or your performance this is about company policy." So I quit. They then didn't pay me my vacation time they said they would cash out. This was my first job. I worked there for 2 1/2 years. I also heard after I left they promoted this manager to a coordinator position. just curious what other people's opinions on this are.

My dress code is that men must tuck in their shirts, women do not have to. It is the cut of the shirts that makes it okay, at least as far as they tell me. Regardless, it is a rule here, and if they decide to enforce pulling in carts with the cart-pulling straps when they have not enforced it in years, it is their right to do so. Bullcrap yes, but it is not really that serious.

My thoughts? You worked here for two and a half years, and this is what you quit over? Really? Shirt tucking is your line in the sand?

As for the vacation time, might want to have a word with your store steward or the rep.

what is your policy on employees wearing baggy pants and shirts that are 3x the size they actually need.

When I first started, I always tucked in my shirt, then I started noticing that a lot of people weren't bothering (both men and women). I haven't tucked in my shirt since and no one's said a word to me about it.

973 is very strict about the dress code and tucking in.

The problem is the new blue shirts are short wasted and I'm tired of seeing butt cracks.

shirt tucking is the dumbest thing ever.

customers

do

not

CARE

If our shirts are tucked in, and if it's not a customer issue, then it doesn't matter.

we where uniforms to be identifiable to the customer, not fit some jack hole's idea of what "proffessional looks like.

i seen management in some tacky ass crap,

At my store in my deli, we are REQUIRED to wear these Boars Head chef jackets.  They are a tannish color that makes you look like part of the North Korean army + they provided these goofy beanie caps but luckly we can wear a regular kroger cap if we choose.

These things are so damn hot.  We are the only store in the entire company that has this particular uniform.  No one who elected to come here after the remodel was aware that these would be given out to us about 5 months after the doors opened.  All of us want short sleeve shirts for the summer.  We shall see......

As long as your shirt covers your boxers, it should be okay to wear your pants low even if they're under your butt.

OMG yes totally! management's clothing definitely leaves more to be desired! I am always thinking "how is wearing that look better than someone with their shirt out?

When i was first hired, I was told by the person hiring me (the lead store manager) that ladies didnt have to tuck in their shirts, they didnt have any of the women's cut shirts in my size so I had to get a unisex shirt, I have worked there since Feb 2017, no one took issue until the manager who hired me got sent to another store and this new manager swooped in and started nitpicking every policy.

My store is pretty lax about dress code.

The turnover rate is so high that new employees don't get a shirt or anything.

It's even a struggle to get a name tag or employee shopper's card.

I think a lot of employees wear the same shirt all week.  Or, at least some of them smell like it.

Otherwise, it's some random polo shirt in store colors, or a white button up shirt unbuttoned halfway down the chest.

Back in the day, one particular manager made a big deal about tucking in shirts in order to harass courtesy clerks he didn't like.

The solution was to tuck in the shirt and pull the shorts up to the navel, Senior Wednesday style.  It was pretty funny.

As for your situation, it's tricky.  I might have pulled my Weingarten Rights since they seem pretty fun and I've never gotten to fire them up before.  Seeing as it was during the final two weeks, I might also have laughed in their face, pointed out that the store won't be able to cover your hours and that they'd dip all day, and gleefully signed the writeup with a hand turkey or the middle finger version thereof.

It's a bit silly to quit over, though.

"Why did you quit your last job?"

"I had actually put in my two weeks notice, but they wanted me to tuck in my shirt.  Bastards."
