Working with a tattle tale..

How do you deal with it? My coworker  goes running to the manager for any little infraction.  Even if you're not doing anything wrong, if she thinks you're doing something wrong she won't hesitate to tell on you.  It's very annoying. You always have to watch yourself around her, but like I said, even if you're doing nothing wrong she'll go tell on you.  I try to be friendly with her and get along and for the most part we don't argue or anything, but ugh. She drives me up a wall.

Here's a simple answer:

Don't do anything wrong. Your excellent work ethic will give you the benefit of the doubt with your superiors.

I would start documenting her and your activities. Can you give us an example of an infraction?

For example, when she was pretty new like a month ago, we were opening deli meat up. The way we do it is cut it open on top of the cutting station, and then we pat it dry with paper towels. I've been doing that for as long as I worked there (I've been there for 8 years), and so does everyone else. For some reason this apparently set her off and she went running to tell a manager that we were patting the meat dry with paper towels. And the manager was just like "...so?"

And that's just how she is. She goes reporting little things. The other day a co-worker of mine accidentally put the Sarah Lee ham in the private selection area. It happens. People get busy and make mistakes and it's not an uncommon mistake. She went over to the assistant head deli and told him about it.  Was that really necessary? Everyone has made that particular mistake at some point, and it can get annoying if it happens over and over, but that's not even what was going on.

Start keeping track of all the things she does wrong which actually ARE important mistakes and make it a point every day to get her in trouble for something she's ****ed up.

Give her some time to burn out and not give a crap. Everyone starts like they are gonna run the place, then reality sets in.

try "reverse psychology" with her.  complement her on stuff she does. like say "hey I noticed you put the Sara Lee Ham back in the right place.  Thanks!"

 I've worked with her type.  They're troublemakers.  Your best option is to get rid of her.

Management will catch on to her and her tattle-tale ways. No one likes tattle tales, and management doesn't want to deal with it. Hopefully the situation will figure itself out.

I have a produse manager like that she took over a year ago and her sales and shrink is good and soooooo the store mannager treats her like a queen she is passage aggresive to everyone unless your a suite.

You could always pull her aside and have a honest conversation with her. Calmly tell her that you appreciate her wanting everything to be done correctly & "by the book", but she's comming accross as a "tattle-tale" and it really makes her look childish.

 this; just keep doing everything the right away and keep doing your job to the best of your ability...don't get caught up in the games and don't let her or her tactics get inside your head. actions speak much louder than words and as someone else here said, management doesn't want to have to come over and hear about how the ham was put in the wrong place every day or whatever. until something that's actually bad happens, your coworker will probably end up being treated as "the boy who cried wolf" and no one will take her seriously

I got "ratted out" to my Store Manager by a "Special Needs " ( AKA "Mentally Retarded") Bag Boy who told the Store Manager that I was giving a customer poor customer service by talking to the store Union Steward while checking out a customers order.  The Store Manager wrote me up for this on 1/18/2013 and gave me a 3 day suspension.  The Union Local Rep. ( United Food and Commercial Workers Union Local #7) in Denver, CO  thinks all of this is is OK. This same "Special Needs" Bag Boy was recently written up for stealing another employees lunch from the break room refrigerator and eating it and was only given a 1 day suspension. On 1/18/ 2013 I was ordered by the Store Manager to not talk to the "Special Needs " Bag Boy anymore, that I was to leave the break room for lunches or breaks if he was present, and the 'Special Needs"Bag Boy was told not to bag at my checkstand anymore.  Where does all of this end? I am going to get fired because of this!

Talk to the National Union folks. This is all BS, and they can't order half of it. Might try talking to the EEOC folks as well (we hated when employees filed EEOC charges).

Wow. I'd actually say you're close to having a lawsuit on your hands if what you're saying is true. If I were in your shoes, I'd go out of my way to be near that bagger all the time. It would be hilarious to see a manager try to fire someone for being in the vicinity of another person.

Then again, maybe there's a "Kroger restraining order" I'm not aware of.

sounds to me like the manager's got it out for you anyways, or maybe the union steward, regardless of what the special needs boy told them

Yes, the store manager definitely has it out for me,  so I can't do anything right. I got a transfer request form asking for a transfer to 6 other King Soopers signed by the asst. manager but the store manager who has it out for me said he would not "recommend" me to any other store manager even if there was an opening for a checker in another store. He definitey wants to fire me and the UFCW is worthless.
