New Hire hours

Hi, just started at Kroger, HR gave me Training hours and an 8 hour shift first week. HR scheduled 18 hrs for second week. Third week with E-Schedule, I get 3 hrs for the entire week! Department manager said they didn't need the help! Fourth week I get 4 hrs. How.does HR hire for a department when there is not a need? Will be moving on to another job I guess...

You probably should. They probably just over hired. I was just hired and several others. My first i worked 8 hours. Second week I had 2 8 hour training days and worked 28 hours. My third week I had 19 hours now this week I am scheduled 27 hours.

They shouldn't have hired if they didn't need you. I'd talk to a manager and see if you can go to another dept. first.

ask around if the contract guarantees some minimal number of hours.  my contract requires at least 12 hours.

There is often miscommunication between HR and the store regarding hiring needs. If you're willing to stick it out, I can guarantee that someone will eventually quit and you may be able to acquire more hours. Kroger has a huge amount of turnover, and even if they don't need you right now they will definetely need you in the near future. If not, try talking to your store manager about moving to another department.
