I voted for it to avoid strike but I'm not happy. The wages are truly pathetic but since the wage schedule was never up for debate that was no reason to vote it down.

I think once people learned it was either lose spousal coverage or lose healthcare for all part timers they changed their tune.  I'd love to know the turn out number though.  I think it was pretty low.  Voting seems to be deliberately inconvenient and apathy ran high.

The first rule of debate is that nothing is ever truly off the table. Just because it's stated to be off the table doesn't mean it is. it's just on the very edge of the table. It all depends on how skillful the people on each side are.

Sounds like they had given up pay long before, likely for healthcare.  Once you've given up on something its hard to get it back.  The bad news for the rest of us is that kroger will point to atlanta and say "give up on spousal health care, they did."  Others locals will roll over, because their members can't afford a strike/won't go.  And if your local is representing safeway and albertsons workers its a double whammy cause those companies are really in the crapper.

This contract is a total joke and big slap in the face to all the hard working, IN STORE employees.  Without us, Kroger would not be the money making company that it is today.  If you're happy with this low life contract, your expectations of your worth must be very low. Regretably, after 25 years with this slave mentality company, I'm not giving up what I've worked my tail off for. Yes, I lost my spousal insurance.  I've just taken a 300 dollar a month pay cut. How happy are you with your measly 2 cent pay raise?  You are just the kind Kroger wants. No brains and no expectations of any thing better.  Good Luck.

Kroger hires people who don't mind making an unlivable wage.  The government will make up the difference.  Kroger controls the work force with the employees they hire.  The Union wants to fight Wal-Mart for low wages when they won't fight Kroger for them.

It's because the union already benefits from Kroger's policies by being able to collect money from "member" employees. They're fighting walmart so that they'd be able to tap the chain's thousands of employees for $10-$17 per person per week. You can bet that they're slobbering over that fact.

Let this be a testament to ALL union members that the few whom they placed their trust upon and financially backed no longer listens to their concerns and grievances.

Thank God for people like you and local 1996.  If you are not happy with this agreement then do us all a favor, QUIT  and find another job. Let me be the first to wish you the best of luck in finding a job where you are offered a pension and employer paid benefits.  If you are mad about spousal insurance, then my suggestion is for them to get off their lazy a-- and find a job(excluding stay at home moms). I am happy to have a job and great health insurance (that is paid by the employer ) that is at a very low cost for me. Thanks to the leadership of local 1996 and the loyal members, we are able to achieve these things.

Sincerely,

Loyal union member and Kroger employee for 25 yrs

My husband is not sitting on his lazy ass.  He is self employed and has worked hard all his life.  When I signed on to Kroger--guess what?  They offered insurance for families for ALL full time employees.  We have raised a family of three children on the wages and insurance Kroger use to supply. So now after 25 years they take it away.  We did not plan on this added expense and it will hurt our bottom line.  I'm thrilled that you're so pleased with with your slave wages.  I'm not. Like I said before, your self worth must be nil.  Try raising a family on your part time low rent wages.  Let me guess, you'er a single mother with three iligimate children getting ebt and government assistant.  Try living in the real world.

Guess what!!  I'm married and I don't have children. Guess what!! I own my house.  Guess what!!  We live in the 21st century, slavery was abolished years ago so therefore I'm not a slave to anyone. I work at Kroger because I chose to.  You just got a glimpse of what the rest of working American has been going thru for a long time( example your husband). Nobody owes you anything, that's the problem with people these days, somebody always wants a handout.  If you don't like what you are offered find another job.

Oh look, seems like the hardliners have found our little hideaway forum here.

Do as a favor. Go kill yourself. You're sitting comfortably with your pre-historic contracts while the newer folks have to shoulder the burden of corporate cost-cutting and greed. By the way, have you considered that may those who demand spousal coverage already have their spouses working for the maximum allowed by their employers yet being paid minimum wage? Two people being paid $8/hour for +/-32 hours is NOT acceptable, neither is it sufficient. You're probably gonna say "then they should work 40 hours!". Honey, do you absolutely think that corporate retail will allow that to happen? There's a reason why even Kroger cheats people out of full-time status, and are really after the ones who already reached it.

Of course, you wouldn't know that. You're too busy reaping the "benefits" that you've secured a generation ago. I'll wager a week's worth of union dues that you probably don't pick up your fair share of work. How does your store's nutrition section look? Oh wait, I should probably ask the part-timer who has to do the majority of the work. I'd bet he'll know more about its current state than you.

So tell me, how much did the union exec pay you to sleep with him? Did your kids get to watch you two? Hell, I won't be surprised if you didn't bother hiring someone to watch your kids while you went about your business, so you took them with you.

And you know how I'm able to stand by my words here without regret? Because the old-timers who I've worked with and have been around for longer than I have been on this planet say that the newer contracts are increasingly unfair to the newer, often part-time people. Based on that consensus, you, madam, are the deranged oddity.

Go die in a ditch. Thank you.

With deep regret, you can not stand by your words. If you had read my second sentence I don't have kids. Guess what. 25 yrs doesn't make me old contract.

I unequivocally stand by everything I've said. So what did you do with your kids, sell them to CPS for a profit?

25 years does make you old contract.

Don't have anymore kids. You're going to stress the entire welfare system.

Anything else you've got to say to defend your petty friends over at the union office? No, advertising about their greatness and their effort to spread salvation through the ways of "collective bargaining" isn't worth mentioning.

I should also add that since you can't address the conditions I've described earlier about spouses working, you concede that I, and to an extent, the charming user who first addressed you, are correct. Admit to the fact that you KNOW that you wouldn't want other people to obtain the same benefits that you already get.

Also, do tell how you found out about this place. Do you plan on making more pro-union propaganda?

Too late, she already does that.

How do you think Nutritiongirl can afford internet service?

As to whether she's also soliciting store manager(s)? Well, who do you think she got a computer to access this place? biggrin

25 Years... those are the key words there.  If you've only been with the company for a few years, you're definitely under the new paradigm, which means you might as well work for Walmart, or sell oranges by the side of the road.

There's absolutely no legitimate purpose any longer to give these f#$%s any more of your money.  The union is useless to newer employees.

So, if you're a long timer, good for you.  I'm glad you get a decent wage, and have definitely earned what you've gotten over time, because I know it wasn't easy.

On the other hand... Christ.. didn't you ever want to do anything else with your life?  D

Don't do that. The local municipality will hound you for not having all the costly certificates that they "have" to issue you. Remember, they can and do reserve the right to issue tickets and citations to 12-year-olds who establish a one-day lemonade stand.

 LOLOLOLOLOLOLOL

There's a HUGE difference in contracts between people hired now and people hired in '89. Yea, it's not the oldest contract out there but anyone with half a brain can see the contracts have gotten worse and worse with every ratification. (in every local, i'd bet)

I'd love to have a time machine, and go back to 1989 and just be a dumbass bagger for Kroger.  I wouldn't have wasted that time and money on college, and now I could be livin' comfortably doing about as much as a 90s era GM employee sweeping the shop floor.

the union has been in it with kroger for quite awhile now wake up people!!!!!!!!!!!! almost all kroger items are from china even apple juice its right in front of your eyes lol its gotten so bad that now walmart even has a better dress code..... Tshirts LOL, pretty much the same pay as walmart for years now yet kroger has there union there to say their prices are a little higher than other stores because they have to pay more for quality union help LOL the union controls all the media put out which is why walmart gets all the bad press yet kroger is the same if not worse the union spends your money saying they're using it to stop walmart yet more and more pop up all the time even walmart supermarkets. lets not for get the health care law that was supported by the unions and kroger and other companies like them so they can get rid of their expensive labor force. the corporations are reeducation camps and you don't even know it welcome to America where you go to school to become a dummy then you go to a place like kroger to be reeducated take a good look at all the signs the phone has a sign phone, stapler, oven door oven door nob lol eventually you become a brainless zombie and do what you're told to do look at your coordinators when they come in if the floor is blue and they say its not blue it's yellow no matter what you do you will not convince them that its blue because the people above them are telling them that it is yellow and they will fight with you and do everything they can to make sure you are in COMPLIANCE and understand that it really is yellow and if you find out that you can't comply than you will be blacklisted and then fired eventually. Gotta be in compliance gotta be in compliance every hour on the hour.

At least someone got a raise. As a courtesy clerk I didn't get jack.

I glanced at the contract last week but I was still unsure where to actually go to vote so I abstained and did not vote.

From what I saw about courtesy clerks, I'm glad I did.

I have been working for Kroger for 33 years now and I still cannot afford to shop here. Cost of living wages stopped many contracts ago. But , guess what? Kroger raises prices every week!

How can they expect us to be loyal Kroger shoppers when they make the prices so high that we can't afford to shop at Kroger?
