"I was told to do this, I was told to do that, this manager doesn't like me"... Etc, etc.
Your career is what you make of it. If you complain and question everything that your superiors tell you to do then you will get nowhere in the real world. I don't care if what my boss tells me to do is retarded, I do it (though this rarely happens). My point is you do it because they're your boss.
If you're not making enough money then work hard and get promoted. Don't kiss any body's ass. Just come in, clock in, do everything that you're told to do at 110%. It's that simple.
By the way if you want to get promoted and make more money then your chances of that happening on the front end are slim. Baggers and cashiers make up the majority of the store. Work in grocery, dairy, or produce and show everybody what you can do. No offense to anybody on the front end (I actually come up for cashier assistance when I can so I understand what happens) but the real work in the store is done in grocery, dairy, produce and drug gm. Your chances of getting promoted when working hard in one of those departments is much higher than on the front end.
Take that how you like but that's just my 2 cents to all of the complainers.

Do you realize how stupid you sound when yuou say do something at 110%? One hundred percent is ALL. If it's all, then there is no more. If it wasn't all, then it wouldn't be 100%.

a) You won't get very far with Kroger, period. This is a company that values the dollar over the employee. Granted, many companies do, but what brings the morale down is that Kroger doesn't try to hide this fact.
b) Kroger does tend to promote internally but much of what is out there you have to go for on your own. Example: I'm in Front End and examining a deli position as their version of utility clerk. I know about it because I listened to our grapevine and made a pest of myself asking when I overheard. But as a courtesy clerk, the next step for me potentially is cashier while in Front End. And I doubt that will happen. If there would be one reason to want it, it would be to avoid parking lot duty. As a courtesy clerk I am ineligible for a raise based on company policies and union contracts. Ironically, cashiers can get raises after X amount of time has passed. A whole nickel.
...Just backing up what you wrote about Front End.

Although this is a tough love approach, I completely agree. It comes down to our goals, and life quality we want.
