Store Manager and Produce Manager Buddies
Permalink

Sorry for the long postblankstare

This is the issue: I am a produce clerk, and our produce manager doesn't do anything. He texts all day, talks on the phone, and hits on every single woman he sees. This is how it always has been with him, ever since he came to the store. Everyone in the store knows how he is, he doesn't do work, the assistant manager, who is a college student, pretty much runs the department. The only thing the actual department manager does is mess around and make the schedule. Now, the other day, he loaded up four cases of bananas on a cart, took them to the sales floor and stood around and texted and talked to people for 45 minutes(me and the assistant manager timed him) and still hadn't touched a case of the bananas. He walks back into the produce room, and bitched me out for having a short conversation with the assistant manager while i was loading up a cart of product. (he still hadn't worked the bananas he's been standing by for 45 minutes). I had finally had it and went to talk to the store manager. Keep in mind everyone else in the produce department has already talked to the store manager about him. I tell the store manager about how he is always on his phone, doesn't do work, and about the specific incident the other day. ALL the store manager did was go to our department manager and tell him exactly what I said. He then proceeded to bitch me out for talking 'crap' about him to the store manager and act like a little girl and not talk to me.....

What should i do about this? Obviously nothing will be done at the store, I have already tried this. Why would the store manager tell him only what i said and not the rest of the produce clerks, even the assistant produce manager? The store manager likes me, and has no issue with me .

Deal with it as in what? What should I do other than submit a complaint to a website?

Wouldn't it be considered bad management for a store manager to receive a complain about an associate from another associate and then mention names during the conversation they have? What I'm asking is, wasn't it wrong for her to tell him my name specifically?

Kroger actually has an open door policy that forbids management from doing this. Any and all complaints against an employee engaging in unethical behavior (i.e. stealing company time by sitting on their ass) HAVE to be anonymous. Find out how to get in contact with your district manager. Usually co-managers and store managers can be transferred, demoted, or even terminated if Kroger thinks that a harassment lawsuit is looming. Corporations today are very concerned about their PR image, and it sure as hell wouldn't help them if a harassment lawsuit was won against them.

Any ideas on the first step of getting to the district manager? I'm in the Atlanta district if it helps.

Also, is that policy listed somewhere where I could find it?

At my store the policy is printed in the break room by the business permits and such. I think it's "SHRINK STOPPER" or something like that.

Hmmmmmmmm I'm not sure where it would be at my store, its not in the break room or in by the business permits. I'll have to look around. Anyone know of a place it may be listed online? I know most of their policies are on thekrogerco.com

Tell your store shop steward.  This is a valid grievance.
