Left early during probation do to not having a ride back...

Getting ready to open a new store. And even though the store that's opening is within walking distance, hence why I applied, I've been having to train at a Training Center and other store almost an hour away. (30 minutes roughly, and hour with traffic :/) They offered us a bus, which I told them I had a ride. Because at the time I did.  Sure, a couple of times I HAD to take the bus because, I did, indeed, NOT have a ride. But up until this past week I've gotten there. Finished all my shifts and what have you.  Problem is, as this is still probationary period, I had to leave early twice this week in order to actually get a ride home.

I never got asked like some others did again, if I needed the bus. So, when getting the schedule she'd written down for us and telling the only two people who can give me a ride... all was good.

Unfortunately, do to my sister being sick one day, and no bus available at the time and the only person able to pick me up having to go in late (they thought they could take off but couldn't, while the other had work) I came in 30 minutes early and left 30 minutes early.

Today though, both people had to make up work. One had third shift, and the other had to get up at 6 in the morning... Because I didn't 'need' a bus, I was scheduled till' 10 pm. Which means. No bus. Which meant that neither people could pick me up then. I didn't find this out until the DAY I was leaving. I even called the Training Center where they explained that I DID tell them I had a ride, and that I had to do my 4 - 10.

I went to the store, 30 minutes early again, but told them I had to leave at 9 pm or else, hey! I'd be sleeping on a bench that night. Because the only person available would only be available to get me then, and had to be back by or before 10 pm.

I'd called during my break, to see if maybe they could go in late, but it wasn't happening. So, I did indeed clock out at 9:00 pm.

I'm worried  though, because I'm still in probationary period, how this will affect me or what will happen and what have you... Now, I know I'm completely at fault. I personally should have taken the bus from the get go. And if I told them I 'had a ride'... then I 'had a ride'. And I should have been more responsible then relying on others to get me there.

This was my last week there. And I was told (before all this) to go to our store to pick up my schedule tomorrow... I'm just a little concerned... Now, I would NEVER do this otherwise! I applied to the one store because it was so close by! So getting to that store would be NO problem at all! I would MAKE it no problem! I'm just worried that this will seriously count against me. Even though getting to the store (I always left an hour or more early so as to beat traffic. I'd never travelled for a job before...) was kinda hard. I did make it. And didn't call off. Not even when it flooded, I managed to get on the bus and sit out there the hour until my shift started.

Is it at all possible that maybe they'd be a little more understanding to the situation? Since it is pretty far away... I never got a chance to tell my boss either time. I always just told the CSM there at the other store as I don't have my boss's number and I was holding out hope that I'd be able to stay.. but again... how understanding do you think they'll be? As, technically, while I only missed 30 minutes today (since I came in 30 minutes early) and last time I came in early too but completed a full 6 hours as originally scheduled even though it was at different times)... I did 'teeeeechnically' change the schedule AND leave early... so I'm VERY worried.

To be honest... Cross that bridge when you get to it and do the best you can. if you're still getting shifts go with it.

I agree.  There is so much lack of communication, I doubt the store will know about the shorted training sessions at the training center.

We have a new guy that is scared to death of getting fired and he's barely been there a week!.  He worked at a smaller grocery store so kroger hired him quick.  We have been short handed and haven't really had time to train him.  Just kept him busy and out of way while we(3 of us) cranked thru work.  He has 0- experience and a short memory.  Not sure what he learned from his previous job.

Yes, they can fire you if they want too.  They're not gonna do it right away, since they're about to reopen.  They may wait to do until the reopen is complete.  They may not notice either.  You're at their mercy.  Don't call in sick or be late to work.  If they ask you to stay over, do it.

Word to the wise, get a bicycle. Hit up craigslist, goodwill, or a yard sale.  You don't need something fancy, I know folks who ride to work on old huffy's.  A million times better than walking.
