Cutter training?

I am being sent to a different store for a week, 7-330 every day for meat cutter training. Is it like a class? Or am I just going to basically work at another store for a week?

Are you getting a pay raise, to actually become a "Meat Cutter"? Or are you still going to just be a "Meat Clerk"?

No raise. Just a clerk. But I felt like the training can be used elsewhere if I wanted

I'm surprised they are going to send you to another store. I was trained to cut by my manager and coworkers. Sure, it wasn't "fornal" training I guess, but I'm sure I can cut circles around some people.

I finished this about 2 months ago, it was pretty easy. I was gonna have to go to another store but that trainer stepped down and my manager became the new one so I got to stay at my store. While doing the course you're still a Meat Clerk with the same pay, when you finish and pass the course you will become a Certified Meat Cutter with a nice raise! There is a lot of computer training things so get ready for that and you'll have to learn how to cut everything that's on the cutting tool. You also have some book work to do and it's fairly simple, you read a section and take a test. When you get past all that your trainer will decide if your ready and your Meat Coordinator will meet with you, ask you some questions, and you may have to cut some stuff for him/her. I forgot, you will need to learn "tray styling" as well. USE THE GLOVE and the push plate on the saws too!!! You'll do fine and you get to tell people you're a Meat Cutter!!

That's pretty bull****. As a regular meat clerk we have to do all the same cuts, use the saw and grinder, everything, for minimum wage.

I'm no expert, but that sounds an awful lot like someone is violating your contract and hoping nobody notices.

I asked  the union rep. He said nowadays all meat clerks are expected to know how to cut. For Min. wage. **** Kroger

That's what I thought. Screw that. Being a bagger, sorry, "courtesy clerk", is a lot easier and safer.
