Learn to write and speak coherent sentences would help greatly.
You want to learn to do everything the Dr/GM manager does:
Write order
Scan Backstock.
Know and understand how to use CAO(handheld).
Write DDP. Get work done per DDP times.
Know the 3A's.
Know the 5S's or whatever Dr/Gm uses.
We sign bids here. Look in your breakroom for bids and start signing them and calling for interviews. You won't get put in your store unless there is an opening.

I dunno about lead positions but if you want to move past lead most grocery chains require a bachelors degree (you might be able to get away with an associates degree). Kroger starts new graduates with a bachelors in business (and all that comes with that) as co-managers after their training program.
Co-manager is what other chains call "assistant manager" for which some ask for 2+ years and a bachelors degree... You already have the 2+ years, now you just need the degree.
Competition wise (I dunno how kroger promotes from within) you have over 2 years experience in the store but someone with a bachelors has a lot they learned over 8 semesters of school. IMO, one lacks practical knowledge while the other lacks the the theoretical, terms, formula's etc you learn in school, probably why some ask fir the combination of the two.
are you serious? You want to move up with this company? Kroger does not care about you and your 2 years... I have been with them 4 years and nothing... There is no way to talk to them or make them understand your position on things. It is futile. You will have to give everything of yourself including your soul to move up dude. If you are willing to be evil and join an illuminati type of corporation then maybe just maybe you can move up. Good luck on that. Sorry to be Dude downer but the truth is the truth. Put in applications everywhere you can and give your hard work to a company that deserves it. Respect and Peace to you my friend...

That depends on the division. In Delta no degree is necessary, but it helps.
In terms of moving up, find out what position you want and if there is a chance at it becoming available in your store. If so, let your store manager know that you are interested. Keep in mind some divisions(maybe all?) are rolling out new standards in department head training. Prior to this year you just had to basically shadow your current lead for 8 weeks and it was basically considered done. Hours were paid by corporate and not the store. This is not the case anymore, they have developed an actual program for all new leads to attend, most likely in another store with others. It's actually just getting finalized here, so I'm not sure the exact details of it.
But keep in mind, these positions are given to the best fit for the job, regardless of seniority. It definitely helps to have a history of not only being a hard worker, but also smart and able to handle the various tasks involved(including probably one of the most difficult, managing different personalities).
