Going back to being a courtesy clerk?

I can't deal with being a cashier anymore. Don't really want to move up either, since it's gonna be more BS to put up with and it's not really worth minimum wage.

Hated pushing in carts all day and cleaning restrooms, but now it doesn't seem all that bad after I've experienced what it feels like to literally just stand there and do nothing but scan food and interact with people who don't really give a **** about you - it's not for me.

Any way management will 'demote' me?

i would ask your front end/customer service management about it. but if you are demoted back to it, since you are cross trained and if your store never has enough help, you're just gonna end up on the register anyways.

i would maybe go ask to put in for a different department.. maybe help out drug gm stocking or maybe the scan coordinator of your store.. you won't have to deal with customers as much (if at all) and it's pretty easy

Doubt they will put me as a stocker or somewhere else.

I don't want to quit this job, since im going to have to put up with doing customer service type work if I go some place else since since I can only manage part time, but all I want to do is work and not be bothered with having to deal with people.

As a bagger, all I really had to do was push carts in and bag groceries whenever I get a chance - and I was REALLY good at that.. Now. as a cashier, it's just more of a load that I don't feel like is worth putting up with. It's a very easy job, but not for me. I'd rather be pushing in carts than to put on a fake smile and greet people while I stand there for 5+ hours..

Try doing it for 3 years!  It will really start messing with you.  Asking for their card, telling them about the fuel points, the survey, would you like to donate to ABC charity, do you have anything on the bottom of your cart, do you want cash back and on and on and on over and over and over again.

Whoa whoa whoa. They're still paying you minimum wage to check? That's absurd. They may have just forgotten your raise. Ask them about it and you might get a little backpay. Also, never "try" to get demoted. Usually you'd end up fired instead. Now I know cashiering is probably the worst position in the store (tied with customer service desk), but if you stick it out a month or two you'll usually get a couple of options:

1. You can ask to move somewhere else now that you can be called for relief. Maybe ask about moving to dairy or produce.

2. You can get an equally crappy but slightly better paying cashier job at another store like Aldi or CVS.

P.S. If you ARE converted back to a bagger, don't expect to ever move up again in Kroger. As managers change out and stuff, they'll look at your report and see "Loscar was a bagger, then a cashier, and then brought back down to bagger again. Well that was a waste of training time."
