Cutting Hours
Permalink

Our cashiers are working 12 - 20 hours this week.  Our FEM said it would be the same next week too.  Courtesy clerks are getting 25 - 35 hours this week for some reason.  I better not have to bag one single item this week LOL!  Maybe they are finally going to get rid of all those gobacks in the backroom.

I work two days this week, 15 hours total.  I have FIVE days off!  I hope they don't expect me to run the floor, cashier and bag like they have in the past.  I'm going to take it easy this week.  I can't wait to see how many times they call me to come in.  Normally we work 36 - 40 hours a week during the holidays with all registers open.  This is going to be interesting.

I'm glad my husband got alot of OT at his job this week and my Christmas shopping is almost done.  Kroger really has a way of wishing you a Merry Christmas don't they?

Is more help being scheduled, but just being given fewer hours? Like instead of scheduling two cashiers for seven hour shifts, schedule three and give them four hour shifts? That would make it so more registers could be open at a given time, but cut down everyone's hours as a result. I would think that at least the week of Christmas, more hours would be available for the first half of the week while Friday/Saturday would see a reduction in available hours.

As a CSM, when saw the hours on e-schedule, I freaked!  Are they crazy?  I was suppose to run the store with 2 checkers on Friday and Saturday after 6 pm.  The week before Christmas!  Well, I added hours.  I added a total of 72 hours on the front!  I haven't heard from anyone yet, but I'm sure as soon as the District Manager and Front End Coordinator get in touch with the Manager I'll catch it!  Oh well, at least our customers will be waited on and we might even get lucky and make Que!

They might be crazy! We added hours too after looking at what eschedule spat out for the weekend before christmas.

As for cutting hours, our baggers have more hours than most cashiers but we've got a ton of cashiers right now so the hours get distributed more. We've got a relative shortage on baggers.

I'm tired of fresh faced cashiers whining about hours then not working those scheduled. What is wrong with them?

I know!  New cashiers come in and want alot of hours and it just doesn't work that way.  Alot of them get more hours than me just because I don't claim their hours.

We have alot of new cashiers so each lane is open and some are only working 4 hour shifts.  I'm not coming in if they call though.  They can't have it both ways.  We won't schedule you but be there for us if we need you.  NO WAY lol!!  They should have just put me on the schedule.  I'm going to stay home and sleep late, bake cookies and finish my book.

Amen.....we here in MidAtlantic  division have had consistent hour cuts across all departments, with record sales and profitability, for the last 6 weeks......on top of this there is not even the slap in the face 15 dollar gift card or 20% off single purchase because of the holiday....Maybe this is just in the Ashland  Kentucky area but this so wrong on so many levels....Merry Christmas Corperate Kroger folks...it is not so merry for those of us who live on that big 24 to 32 hours  a week pay check.....HO HO HO

Interesting, after re-reading your last comments, you have proven yourself a hypocrite.

I went to the store to get cookies today so I can bake cookies tonight, read my book, watch tv, and just be lazy all day.  Went to the mall earlier, gawd I'm glad that's over with.

Guess who called at 4:00?  Kroger.  I'm not even calling them back.

LOL I love how they don't schedule enough people and then when they're in deep ****, they basically beg and plead for you to come in.

They tried doing that to me on Friday. Thought about it, was like "nope". I even had no intentions of answering the phone today on my day off (but that is mostly due to the fact that I am in so much pain that it hurts to sit, let alone stand for 4+ hours)

That is what Kroger does.
I usually call them back but I have told them a few times that I am unable to come in to work.
It's not my fault that my division can't schedule properly.
It's Kroger's for relying on a computer to do all their damn work and try to take humans out of the equation.

I love how they ask me to come in and expect me to get there in a half hour...

When I live almost an hour away. Yeah, let me just drop everything, not take a shower and come to work.

I ditto and Amen all of these comments. How disrespectful can you be to not schedule an employee then when you call expect them to drop everything and come running. Then have an attitude about it when you don't. Better yet expect me to get up at the crack of dawn, sit by the phone all day waiting for Kroger to call and have my single uniform clean and on hand at all times on a day you had no decency to schedule me on.
