Earlier this week all of the paper towel and toilet paper dispensers in my store was replaced and today they replaced all the markdown printers with new wireless ones. Nothing was wrong with the paper dispensers and the old printers were in good shape. Last week the store finally fixed a drain problem in the deli that had been going on for years, but only after they health dept. threatened to shut the deli.
When our contract was ratified last month Kroger acted like they had no money. So where the hell did all the money come from to replace stuff that didn't need replaced? And Kroger reported a record profit for the 3rd quarter. Hell we aren't even getting the one time 20% discount for the holidays or a $15 gift card. Pisses me off that a multi-billion dollar company can't even spend a few bucks on us, the ones who make them all that ****ing money!

Stores are making plenty of money. Most stores that do over 600k in weekly volume have made 1M$ in profit so far this year each. We're doing a roof repair(much needed, every rainstorm we have 20+ leaks all over the store) that's been long overdue. New DSD printer & maintenance work. I'm fairly confident it's because we're nearing year end and haven't used the allocated funds yet. Use em' or lose em kind of thing.
New printers? I'm jealous!!! I have to beg borrow or steal from another department if I want an RF or a printer. Ours either don't work or they're missing.
As far as everything else we just had a remodel so we aren't getting anything else unless there is a fire or a tornado. Which could happen!
I love those huddles where they talk about each departments sales, how much they're up etc. Half of that increase is because after the remodel they almost doubled the damn price on alot of things. I doubt it's customers shopping more because I see alot of my regular customers at WalMart when I shop there LOL!!!
We're getting $120.00 to buy food for a Christmas Party! Each store in our district gets that to spend as they see fit, be it food or gifts.
Yeah, we're having that too. In addition to the food being provided, management is also running a little "contest" to see who can bring the side dish that's the biggest hit among everyone. It's not much, admittedly... but it's something to enjoy for a little bit. It makes working retail this year a tiny bit better.

I think it's to lower their retained earnings for the financial year. The IRS and SEC definitely look at retained earnings, because sometimes a stock price might be overstated if retained earnings are high and sometimes there is an added tax if retained earnings are too high. The penalty was probably originally created with good intentions to nudge businesses to upgrade equipment to safer, better models, but as we've seen it's just created an urge for companies to waste money on frivolous things. Oh by the way our breakroom got a 60" TV. No cable/satellite though. :/
