What does CA stand for and what is it? It was scribbled on my report from another one of our dumb mystery shoppers (apparently I didn't acknowledge, assist, but did appreciate...... wha?) Anyway, when I got called into the office for a lecture, the store manager told me not to pay attention to the CA but I'm extremely curious what it is.

CA stands for "Corrective Action". It outlines what you failed to do and what you must do in the future in order to avoid disciplinary action. If you receive three CAs, all on the same subject matter, and within a certain time frame, you can be terminated (at least, in my division).

So, if you fail another two mystery shops in the near future, you could potentially be terminated, assuming your division follows the same procedure as mine does. It's odd your store manager would tell you not to pay attention to the CA. Corrective Action write ups are specifically designed to change behavior...

Why you wouldn't get a verbal warning first for something like that is beyond me to be honest. And what Genesis said about the CA's applies to my division as well. After that point it's up to the store managers discretion on what to do. Usually disciplinary actions are as such:

1) Verbal warning
2) CA
3) 1 day suspension
4) 3 day suspension/possible termination
5) Termination

The way bad secret shops have come in (they have gotten some managers!) they can't discipline here.  I also found it interesting that they would be happy with 85% and not 100%.  Its BS and management knows it.  I got a bad one for not being able to help a customer get an apple thats just like a honeycrisp, but cheaper.  lol.

confuse Oh..... Well, I'm glad my job is in the hands of a mystery shopper. Half the store, literally, failed this particular mystery shopper.

After the last several weeks there, the thought of termination doesn't scare me like it should, probably. I'm just concerned it would make finding another job harder. If they terminate or suspend me if I fail another mystery shopper, can I fight it on the bases that they didn't first give me a verbal warning?

These mystery shoppers are a joke.  My guess is if Kroger hires them they are just going to BS most of it.  We had one guy in produce that was asked a very specific question and got a 100%, when everyone one was patting him on the back in the huddle he said he was never asked this question but was like whatever i'll take it.

In California, our unions do not let the company even write you up because its strictly circumstantial.

I hope you didn't sign it. I'm anti-union but you should totally file a grievance for that bull****.

How could you possibly appreciate a customer without acknowledging or assisting them first?  Even if you didn't assist them, the fact you appreciated them means you acknowledged them.  You can acknowledge them but not assist or appreciate them.  You can acknowledge and assist them but not appreciate them.  You can't however assist and/or appreciate them without acknowledging them first.

They didn't want me to sign anything. What's a grievance?

That was what everyone was wondering also. Half the store failed for the same reason.
