Leaving work early.

I was scheduled from 10-4:45 today. A family emergency came up around 3:30 and I had to leave. Will I still get paid for that last hour & 15 minutes or will I only get paid for what I worked?

They will only pay you up to the time you left, so 3:30 in your case.

If I quit today, will they pay me for the rest of the year?

you would get paid for what you worked like any normal work place. you're not on salary.

if it was the store's fault, then it might be different.

I hope you remembered to clock out when you left.  If you didn't you won't get paid for the day at all.

In my contract, if you get notified of the death of a family member while on the clock, you do get paid for the whole day. So depending on what the family emergency was, it's not necessarily a stupid question.

Actually, if you forget to clock out, your HR manager will be notified of it. He/she will fill out a quick form and put your forgotten punch in the system. They will give you this form to sign to ensure you left at the correct time.

Hmm... Interesting. I guess it's not such a crazy question, then...

Not at my store lol!  There is no way they would go out of their way to help you.  If you don't clock out tuff.  If you notice it, then you go fill out the form, but they definitely won't mention it.

If you have a good payroll person that cares and does a good job, he/she will catch it and get in touch with you to find out what you worked that day and what the reason was for not clocking out. I imagine though not all stores have diligent payroll employees...

you only get paid for the time worked unless it is a death in the family.

There is no guarantee you can even make up the time lost. that will depend on if it creates over time for the department.

if you did not clock out then make sure it is taken care of by notifying the payroll clerk or signing in the book. And put the true time you left and not the scheduled time off. That can get you terminated.

But if you do get paid for the hour and fifteen minutes that you did not work then send a copy of your contract to me. I want that in our next contract.
