So I interviewed for a cashier/courtesy clerk position around 8 business days ago (excluding the weekend, of course) and I was told that I pretty much had the job. I took the drug test and the hiring manager said they would send my background check off. I had already taken the pre-background check thing online before the interview, as per the HR person's instructions, so all was good to go in that manner.. I was told once everything came back all clear (which I knew it would since I have no record and don't use drugs) I would be hired and scheduled for orientation.
But at this point, I am getting a bit nervous because it has been so long since I heard anything. I called the manager earlier this week and they said that they don't know anything about the background check/drug test once it was sent off to the company that they use. I was told to wait "5-7 business days" from the time of the interview to hear something back (that being some sort of confirmation email from Kroger saying that I have been hired, apparently, then the manager would call me) but obviously, it has gone past that point.
Should I just keep looking and give up hopes that I will be hired? I am hoping not since background checks are not cheap, so they wouldn't have done all that if they really didn't want to hire me, right? How long did it take for you guys to hear back on your background checks/drug tests?
Contact your store and talk to the ASP person. Once you are hired you could get lost in the shuffle. Have one really good new girl that works for me but the issue there was this. She completed everything asked and orientation. She was just setting at home for a week because no one called her to let her know when to start or come in. Store management does not seem to know anymore on new hires, they have to much on their plates. Once the hiring coordinate is done and one is hired then that info is past to the store ASP where they give the info to the department head and go from there. I have seen , several times, where the ASP is off or info not passed to the right person and a new hire will set for quite some time before they get to start.
not saying this is your problem but this does happen quite frequently.
I told aspiring employees to be the squeaky wheel. Those are the ones that got the job. I told them to melt the hiring manager's phone after I gave them her cell number.
