There's no black and white definition. We have a guy who tried to contest a write-up for this, and I asked the same question. I think he missed something like 21 days since the beginning of the year. I would say any more than one a month as a personal rule.

In my dept, 1 day would be excessive

To add on to this, do only unexcused call outs count? I have a coworker who got written up (she had called out maybe 5 days or so in the past month), but all of them were because she was sick, and my understanding is she had doctor's notes.

First question is, what written/published/provided policy did she violate?

She needs to contest that.  There's a good chance she has/had only 10 days from the write-up in which to file.

Sick with a doctors note should not be counting against the person. Now calling out "sick" one day here and there without a note, can and will.

If you seriously want to know that, you don't really want to work. I wish people like that would just stay home and make room for real employees.

And any union that would actually back that play of covering slackers needs to go away.
