Still "Making it right"????

I'm just wondering if there are any stores still pushing the "Make it right" policy.

At my store when they first introduced it, they were heavily pushing it on us. They would require us to carry a pack of stickers in case we encountered a situation where we had to make it right, they would discourage cashiers from making Courtesy Clerks  perform a price check when an item didn't scan at the price the customer claimed, they also posted a big sign on the customer service desk stating that "If an item doesn't scan at the right price, we WILL MAKE IT RIGHT IMMEDIATELY".

I got promoted away from the Front End shortly after that.

Recently these past few weeks I've been getting a couple of cashier shifts again, and I noticed that they haven't been pushing us to "Make it right", I've seen Courtesy Clerks sent to do price checks,   I even saw one of my supervisors telling a customer that she needed the credit card that she used for her purchase in order to get a refund. But when I was running a rain check today, I noticed that the "8. Make it right" option was still available when manually inputting the price.

I'm guessing that Kroger knows that this was a very bad idea, but they don't want to admit it ,so they still quietly endorse it.

Not sure but I was trying to find stickers, as they had been moved, only to find out that they "couldn't figure out how to order more.". Which to me seems like code word for, abort abort abort.

Make it right was a corporate plan to increase customer satisfaction. The higher ups push it every now and then when OSAT is low, but other than that it's just another tool in our arsenal. Yeah, it's still a thing but if you're in a store with decent OSAT you're not going to hear much about it.

I use it as a way to keep our customers happy and the people I tell it to are quite interested and thank me for it. I'll normally reserve it for people i've seen quite a few times and know more than your average Joe. They like it, I like it. We're all happy.

Actually, I had a "Make it Right" refresher course yesterday.  When I asked about the stickers, I was told we are out of them.  The store can only order 3 rolls at a time.  Three are on order and should be coming in with the next supply delivery.

I am still skeptical about implementing the program.

yep, still a thing. Used it twice in the last week.

Always a topic of the morning huddle.

Same, it's mentioned in the huddle, with an emphasis on writing your name on the sticker so that customers will mention you on OSAT.

Yep, I just had a refresher course too. Interestingly, before the refresher course my dept manager told us that we were using them too freely and needed to cut back. So we did. Even in situations that really seemed to call for it (like being out of an item and customer wanting a deal on something else). Then I take the refresher course and realize that they are pushing them even MORE. So, as usual, the left hand doesn't know what the right hand is doing.

we pushed them hardcore right before the end of the period(?) when we were on the fence for getting the dollar raise or not.  We were the highest store in our division in all categories, but lost the dollar because we had just had the center store reset and customers weren't happy.  I know this is a different subject, but it's Bull**** that we wound up finishing higher than everyone else in the division (if I recall correctly) yet we were the only store to NOT get the dollar bonus because our goal was so much higher than the other stores.

Our store still pushes "make it right". Some customers are taking advantage of it trying to get me to make it right for them on purpose. Other customers are telling me they don't want free stuff, they want what they went there to find. Some people are still appreciative.
We didn't get a dollar raise either.

They're right by the Spill Magic.

Oh, wait--we're out of that, too.

Did any of the other stores in your division have a reset during this time?

Spill magic is a joke. We have tried to keep the little broom for the station's The broom's never stay. Department's take them and scrub the floor. We are limited on how many we can order and by the time we get most of them a spill magic broom another station's broom is gone. The manager's don't seem to care but that is what happens people take the broom away and do not bring it back. I just rather use a mop the white power makes a bigger mess anyway.

Also just about every day I make sure the spill magic on the front end is full by the time I leave. Then the next day it's either empty or the container is gone or there is a container with no top. Or the container is in the trash I don't know what pisses me off more it being empty no top or in the trash. I keep several full container's in the cleaning closet by the restrooms so there is no excuse for it being empty.

Ha, I remember the first and last time I used Spill Magic. I was closing with newbies who was told to use em on spills (I was too, lol) and the deli floor was a white mess. We were told to never use it again. LOL

We're still supposed to do it but people have fallen back to the old ways of doing time consuming price checks instead of "making it right" on the spot.

You have to mop afterward. You can't just use it and then walk away from the spot. A very light mopping removes the powder residue from the floor surface. I've had to use Spill Magic on more than one occasion and I've found it to be a time saver time and again. Fortunately, my store keeps at least two cases, sometimes three, on hand at all times, so we never run out of the stuff.

One time I was in an Albertsons store and came across a huge mess - some person in a motorized cart had knocked over a big wine display and there was glass and wine everywhere. Co-workers were standing around wondering how to clean up such a massive mess with mops and paper towels. Spill Magic would have made the clean up not only a great deal easier, but safer too, as you just pour and a generous amount of powder over the spill and it can all be swept up - no worries about the glass cutting anyone and you save time, which prevents someone from possibly getting injured from the spill because it gets cleaned up quicker.

As for Making It Right... it seems it's been swept under the rug at my store. Our OSAT has actually dropped by about eight percentage points since the program was rolled out, lol. If the OSAT keeps going in the direction it's heading, we'll be in the fifties soon. Well Kroger, what do you expect when you cut hours, deliberately understaff and pay among the worst wages in the industry and in America in general? Yeah, you wind up with stores fewer and fewer customers want to shop at, lol.

But just keep blaming the employees and putting more work on their plates to compensate. That's sure to turn things around!

there was one store that had the center store remodel before us, but I think it was either at the beginning of this "push" or before it even began.  Either way, they had plenty of time to make up ground.  We, unfortunately did not.  We missed the goal (which was higher than the other stores') by like 1 point.  I wonder how much longer they'll push that...

This is absolutely it.  They could pay a million dollars to a consultant and not get more accurate advice.

The front end coordinator for our division came in a couple of days ago to talk to us about OSAT scores.  I didn't get talked to, but I heard him tell someone that if you weren't using it for at least half of customers, you aren't using it enough.

I've only seen stickers on items a few times, but I use it a lot.  If someone complains that we were out of something, I usually take off about a dollar to get down to the price of Kroger brand.  If we need to price check something, I'll give it to them for the lowest price it could possibly be.  I don't really mind it because it help get rid of angry customers without needing a manager.

On the other hand, they could take that money and pay employees enough to be motivated to actually work hard (keep things in stock, run backstock, get the tags right) and give us more hours so that we didn't run into these problems.  I know exactly why we don't have any Kroger brand bread, it's because the entire grocery department is up here running registers because we didn't get enough hours to schedule.
