Recently, we had a guy in our Produce team quit. He was the overnight cleaner, working usually 2-8 in the mornings. Now that he's gone my GM basically flat out said I was taking over the position. It directly goes against my availability, which recently changed from being open to not being able to come in between 11PM-6AM (family related matters). Can he just force me on the job? He has this air about him like I had no say in the matter. Both the produce manager and the assistant manager thinks they should just hire someone with the availability to do the job, but he seems dead set on making me do it.
I -really- don't want to do the job anyway. I like my position where it's at. Easy to schedule life around and fits with helping my family need-be.
if they already approved the change in your availability.... tough ****. If you're scheduled then inform them of the error, tell them you will most likely not be able to do it, tell them that they need to find a replacement. If all else fails then call in using the excuse "I was not able to get out of my prior obligations set forth by my availability."
Unless you're in texas in which case Kroger owns your dumb ass.

I worked at Kroger in Texas. I changed my availability and was approved anytime I wanted to. In fact, when I started working for Kroger I was unavailable from 1:00 pm Friday until 4:00 pm Monday. Every weekend off.

Nah. I work at Kroger in Texas and had a department head try to do something like this to me too despite my availability being approved. I simply told her I wasn't coming in for that shift. Sure enough, she found someone else to fill it. You can't be forced to work outside of your availability. That's their problem to take care of, not yours.

Exactly what my union rep said....tell them you won't be able to work that shift.
