I work in a deli with Boar's Head. Some customers like it, of course some don't. Often, I have to explain to a customer that we do not carry a specific item because we carry Boar's Head, because Kroger has their contract with Boar's Head. My favorite customer response to this was, "If this is a Kroger deli, why is Boar's Head allowed to dictate what you sell"? Also, I get a lot of "the other Kroger I shop at has it and they sell Boar's Head, why don't you"? It seems that every store has their own individual deal with Boar's Head.

That is precisely why I refuse to buy Boar's Head products.
Yeah, I hated how once Boar's Head went into the store I was at, out went the Krakus and Kowalski. Don't get me wrong, I actually support Boar's Head products because I grew up on it (fond memories of a honey turkey sandwich sub with lettuce, vinegar, and black pepper) and while expensive, the quality makes up for it. With that being said, the problem with Boar's Head is the price. I worked in a store with a very heavy elderly clientele. Our regulars were mainly elderly fixed-income people who usually only buy just enough lunch meat to last them a couple of days to a week. Sometimes it's about a quarter of a pound, but usually it's less than that. They'd be paying 2 bucks for a few slices of ham when they could get Krakus for the same price for a pound of it (which they don't buy, but that's a huge price jump).
And I think that the contract can be modified to the store's needs. I remember a little bit before I left, they were talking to Boar's Head to at the very least allow sales of the pre-packaged Kowalski meats. Not sure if it ever happened.

I hate it so much I sometimes pack some of my sh!t in a zip lock baggie, wait til no one is looking then, with a cork screw, insert the sh!t load into a bunch of the Boar's Head cheese. Been doing this for quite awhile now, and no body seems to have caught on. Just wish I could know what's happening to people after eating it
"Boar's head" .....what a horrible brand name!!! Who could think it is a GOOD name? "At my store we are proud to sell "Pig Snout"cheeses and meats!" Overpriced and over-hyped!
