I have been trying to transfer to a different store in my district for several weeks. My manager has denied my request claiming that we are shorthanded and cannot afford to lose me. My current store is a wreck and is constantly understaffed. I am one of three front end supervisors. I know the Head FES at the store I am trying to get transferred to and they have told me they want me at their store. Although I am not able to transfer, I have been advised to put in my two weeks, wait about two weeks after not working, and re apply at the other store that I want to work at. If I am to do this, the Head FES has already guaranteed I'd have my spot as a FES. What I am concerned about is my seniority. I currently have 2 years seniority and a week of paid vacation that I have been saving. If I quit now and reapply in two weeks, will my seniority be gone and my vacation removed?
Yes, you will lose seniority and vacation per my contract. You should get your vacation that you earned but you will start at 0 if you rehire. You need to speak directly to a union steward regarding quitting and transferring like this.
Where I am, if you are full time, you will be hired in as part time. Your vacation and seniority start back at 0.
The only thing you can try is have the friend ask the Front End District Manager/Coordinator if they can make the transfer happen. The District Manager is higher up in the food chain and might have more pull then the store manager. There are very few circumstances that allow an employee transfer outside of moving long distance or signing a bid. I have seen it happen for a part time employee but it was for the daughter of a corporate employee.
Several employees, including myself, have tried with no luck. Our managers simply says no and the union guy told us he'd help us 2 months ago. I'm really just desperate to get out of this store.
