Calling out if you work nights?

I don't really work nights, more like super early morning (4am) but calling out 2hrs before scheduled would be calling at 2am, obviously not store management is there at that time.

Today is my day off and I've got a stomach bug, I have no idea if I'll be better by tomorrow. Should I call today and say I might not be able to make it but I don't know or just wait till tomorrow? I'm past probation and union covered btw.

Just call in. You could say you have the stomach bug and that you'll try to be in by your next shift. That you'll let them know. Are you a hard worker with no problems that rarely calls in? If so then there should be NO problem if management is decent. Good luck

Yeah. A real ass buster that salaried management actually likes. I called and explained the situation and was actually thanked for the early heads-up so I'm assuming it's all good.

good job!  I think it's a nice gesture to alert them of a potential problem with significant notice, as you did.  Better than waiting til the day you're due to show up at 4am and them not finding out until they arrive (7,8, whatever).  Then they'd have to scurry to replace your shift.  My store doesn't replace people because we don't have extra people.  The only people who could potentially come in are those with 40 hours already and overtime doesn't exist anymore.  So when someone calls in another worker has to stop his job to do that person's.  Ultimately something doesn't get done.  This really makes the store look great to the customer (NOT!)
