I have put on my availibility that I am unavaible on Sundays and it was approved. Recently my manager asked me to work two Sundays in a row and I said "yes.", just because other plans have fallen through. Now we dont have a whole lot of front end people. And I have gone back to having church and other plans surronding that on Sundays. But last Sunday, he scheduled me and this Sunday as well. Last Sulaturday I talked to him about it and he found someone to take my shift. This Saturday I talked to him and he said I had to "for the needs of the business." Even though I have plans in place, in fact im not even in the city this Sunday. I call in at 6 Sunday morning (my shift starts at 9) and no manager is there, so I keep waking up and calling every 30 mins, until I get a different manager who says I should have taken off or called in earlier. And she brings up the fact that I took off last Sunday as well. And on my next day working, they will talk to me. I feel as though I will get trouble, possibly written up. What should I do? If necessary, should I get a hold of and how do i get a hold of a union representative? Is needs of the business somewhere in a our contract of employment? HELP
We have been told that availability requests are simply that - REQUESTS - that DO NOT have to be honored, The needs of the business come first and foremost. If you cannot and/or will not work holidays nights and weekends, then Kroger is not the place for you. Kroger is a retail job. Seek life elsewhere.
Seems like a tough situation. You could find a company that places a higher value on the personal and spiritual health of the employees. Hobby Lobby is one idea that comes to mind, or wherever the Lord leads.
I believe Hobby Lobby is closed on Sundays (at least where my cousin lives) because who wants to work Sundays when you can sleep in? It seems to me Hobby Lobby actually cares about its employees (for now at least)
