Well there's another one down

Well i'm done at the tiny store after a week and will be going back to my store, but we're down another person again. This turn over rate is getting ridiculous. I hate the training period now because whats the point, they aren't going to stay anyway. It doesn't matter how much you try to train them, they complain that they weren't given enough time. Which to an extent is true, because there's no one here to train them, or no hours to, but then on the other hand, after a month and a half, they should be able to do simple tasks on their own.

I know this is everywhere, I've seen it in my store, i've seen it in a bigger one, and now in a tiny one. Everyone in this company is sick of it. When will Kroger corporate see that?

They see it, but like the previous person said, they don't care. I recently attended a meeting where someone high up in the company "casually" acknowledged that my division alone has a yearly 93% turnover rate while the company as a whole has a yearly 71% turnover rate. All they talk about/care about is building more and more big, new stores while the existing stores drown in problems. Store level management cares about as much as the higher ups as long as they keep getting their fat salaries and bonuses... heck, our store manager keeps telling all of us that we should be paying him for every hole in the departments because hole count is out of control and that if we're only going to do "half" of our job then we should be giving him back half of our paychecks (instead of, you know, working with your people to come up with practical ideas to make things better). Do you think people will stand being put down on a daily basis and repeatedly told to "work faster, work faster!" despite the fact no matter how fast you work, it can't account for the fact that we have insufficient people? Treat people like crap and it's easy to see why Kroger stores look and function as badly as they do.

The turnover rate is going to continue to be bad, if not worsen, when the mentality of management - at all levels - of this company is treat employees with as little respect and compassion as possible while paying them as little as possible. Starting out, people can make more money flipping burgers at McDonald's than doing pretty much any job starting out at base pay at Kroger - that just speaks volumes of how little value Kroger places on its workforce.
