Made Full Time but being told I have to change stores.

I because Full Time in September (through our manager having a surgery that put him out of work for an advantageous amount of time) but today I was told that I would have to transfer stores. Just because I was full time, but I don't know why I was told now. Is that right? Can they force me to switch stores? The store I work at is right down the street from me so I'd rather stay....

Did you ask why you being transferred?  What department are you in?  Will you be in the same department at the other store?  Can you avoid being transferred if you move to a different department within your current store?  Is there another full time person in your department with less seniority than you?  If so, then you can refuse the transfer and make the other person go.

Agree with above.  Each store is allowed a certain amount of full time employees.  In circumstances like this, one full time person needs to leave the store.  Seniority can be exercised.

if you were made full time, doesn't it show the store that another full timer was needed? otherwise it wouldn't of gave the person full time?

No, I haven't spoke to the manager directly about the issue. I was informed when I got home. I work in the produce and I'm the only full timer that isn't the department head or backup. Our deli/bakery has tons of full timers and we've just had rotten luck with younger part timers in our department that locked me into working 40 hours every week until I became full time.

If you're the only full timer in produce other than the department head and backup, they're stupid to want to move you to another store. I mean unless they really don't have the hours to give you but with the way things are i find that hard to believe.

They can't transfer you but they can change your scheduled hours/shift or change you to a different department.  They can only transfer you if you agree to it or if on your application/HR website you have listed that you are willing to transfer.  I believe you still have to agree to it though.  They are bullying you because they didn't want another full timer in their store.  Call the union and see what your options are if you are paying union dues, otherwise, they will not work with you.  in my own personal experience, when you "roll over" they will try to get rid of you whether it be run you off, write you up over stupid ****, etc.  Your best bet actually would be to transfer to get a fresh start or you can just wait it out, deal with their ****, don't do anything to break any rules or give them a reason to write you up, until your store changes managers who you didn't roll over under.  Then you will be fine.
