In the dairy department, is it fine to take items that are considered damaged but its not really damaged. I scanned out a sack of babybel cheese, the little cheeses where perfectly fine. I scanned them out and took a few as a snack. Is eating "damages" okay or am I breaking and rules? I figure it wouldnt cause a problem since the store deems it not for sale, and will not make a profit on it. Instead of letting perfectly good food go to waste, why not let an employee enjoy a snack.
Don't do it!!! It is still Krogers. Damaged or not. No receipt....grounds for termination. It's real bad if y'all are scanning out as damaged when they are not, just to have a snack. Good luck to ya.
I wouldn't do it. It's not a good idea. I know of someone who got fired for taking the sample cookies from the bakery and puting icing on them and eating them (the icing was "theft") so if the management sees this you can be in deep sh*t even if the items is considered damaged.
I know that we throw away a lot of perfectly good food for many reasons but it's not worth getting fired over.
Same for my dept and store, we throw away perfectly good product but hell if I am going to ever be tempted to eat any day-of expired food and be fired. If you want to get fired from Kroger, steal! They may have a tolerance for stupidity and laziness, but they have the utmost respect for the almighty dollar!
OP it would be safe to assume you are already in the process of being fired or giving an extreme warning if you were on camera. You may not think they don't watch cameras and monitor employees 24/7 but that would be wrong!
I had a feeling kroger wouldn't take kindly to it. Anyway it was just a one time thing. Im not worried about getting fired or anything for that one little roundel of cheese. Nonetheless I don't plan on it again in the future.
Unless store management places it in the break room for employee consumption, such as a bakery cake that was not decorated to the customers, satisfaction, don't do it.
It would be considered stealing to just take anything like that from Krogers.
Even if you thought the food was safe to eat, if you got sick from it, you and Kroger would be in big trouble. Also, if they allowed employees to eat out of date product, everyone would simply put too much product out on the shelf so it would go out of date.
In my area (Ann Arbor, MI) the stores donate their "damaged" items, such as dairy products that are within 7 days of expiration, 1 day for cut fruits/veggies, deli items, etc. I've also volunteered at the food bank many times where items from Kroger with a big black X on it are deemed OK to consume within 7 days.
So, idk. Depending on your manager it could be considered stealing. At my old store it was.
