they've started locking the compactor at our store.  They make announcements throughout the day (in code) that they're opening it for people to bring their garbage.  Why on earth would they feel the need to lock the compactor?  I know the employees are all broke af, but I'm not going to go inside the compactor looking for a meal especially since there are cameras that can see that area (at least on our dock there are).

Yea ours has been locked the last few days as well. But from what the store manager told us. We have too much shrink going on, so they are going to be keeping closer track of what is being thrown out. I'm pretty sure though at times Bakery could definitely be part of some of the shrink at times. As they keep wanting us to double production, but sometimes folks aren't even really looking at what is already on tall boys to be worked out. So things get backed up and eventually get thrown out if they can't make it to markdowns. However I think they are trying to keep a early morning/midnight crew of peeps available to work on markdowns early before anything else gets worked out to the floor to have the markdowns done for the day. But I still doubt it will help, unless we start marking particular tall boys as use first, second, third etc. Just to make sure back stock is actually being used and not found several days later.

Currently, no.  The last store, Yes.

It is an old rule.  Someone explained to me about a training video they saw back in the 1980s.  It showed a vendor stocker that threw good product in the compactor instead of running it to fill the shelves.  Once the product is in the receiving area, the vendors get paid for it.  It doesn't matter if it sells or not.

My current store doesn't actually have a compactor, but yes they had started the locking the compactor thing in my old store.

I've heard the same thing, that it's because of the vendors. Apparently they were throwing stuff down the chute and claiming that they worked the product. I'm not sure how true that really is though.

In my store, before Krog, no we left the chute open and powered. Compactor was locked for the night though after 11pm so back door alarm could be armed, as the compactor has a intrusion sensor / magnetic strip that acts as a relay to the alarm for "open" or "closed." Receiver in the morning would open it at 8am usually as part of his duties, otherwise management / dept head would if they needed to use it before 8.

After Krog, yup. Once they took over, the door started getting locked and the key was removed. Management must unlock and run it. Although some of our management will let us employees do it because they know we can be trusted, while other times we are allowed the key ring, we must wait for management / dept head if for some reason the alarm panel is armed during the day as that's otherwise a fun call from our security company to the MOD.

Ours is now locked and explained that they are about to do backroom audits.  It is part of that.  Everything has to be secure, including docks, cages, or trailers.  In our division they are about to roll out a new backroom/backstock program and this is part of it.

they not only have been locking the compactor, but also the back doors and the bay door. it makes it really convenient for receiving, let me tell ya! it's also a sign of good management when they call sanitation checks and nobody can get outside without setting off the alarm, so they leave 4-5 shopping carts stuffed with garbage bags against the door all night. our warehouse is small enough, so maneuvering pallet jacks, l-carts, and u-boats through that mess is almost certainly going to result in a garbage bag avalanche. you know you work for a great company when they'd rather bury their facility in garbage than trust their employees to actually take care of it and throw it away.
