It really all depends on you. Department Heads are protected under the union. You get insurance through Kroger. Pay is usually fair. I'm not sure what co-managers make, but they are considered management, so they are not protected by the union and can be fired for just about anything. also they have to buy their own insurance outside of Kroger. That is a big amount to pay out of pocket. Just think on average at my store employees pay $5 a paycheck for insurance ($20 a month). Co-manager, depending on their situation will pay at least $350 a month on insurance.

Co-managers don't have to buy their insurance on their own. They are offered a plan as part of their compensation package. It is more expensive than the union plans, but from what I remember when I was a manager, it was better.
I am a department head. Co managers can be shown the door anytime. I can be shown the door for gross misconduct.
With OT, I think I make more than a co manager. My job is labor intense. I try my best to follow my managers' and co managers' directions with the people I am given to work with. Their job is paper pushing intense, babysitting workers and jumping thru hoops for upper management.
But, if a Co manager gets their own store as a store manager, they can make atleast double what I make.
