How can Kroger do this?

Several people have been hired before background check. Then if it comes back negative they fire them. Wouldn't this cost the company more money? This has happened twice to me. I am the head utility clerk I mean the main one that cleans in the morning. I am part time and am 43 years old and can only work part time. I have problems being too stressed. They expect me to cover the person that get's fired shift on my day off. I covered it Sunday. They wanted me to cover tomorrow (Thursday) but I said no it was my only day off. One supervisor made comments that I only work a few hours a day (a few being 6) they fuss and say "we don't have anyone to clean up". I just cannot do this. Yesterday they kelp calling me asking where this was and where that was (the mop bucket) I told them I been off 4 hours it could be in Siberia for all I know.

It is sad that they get your hopes up by hiring someone, then firing them when they fail the drug test. At everyone's interview it is explained to them, that if their drug test comes back positive they will be fired. I don't know why people agree to the drug test when they know they are going to fail. I personally don't do drugs so they could spring one on me tomorrow and I'd pass, but if I were one that new I was going to fail. I wouldn't agree to the test, clean myself up, apply again and then agree to the test. I  would tell you not to answer your phone, but then I would be telling you to do something I can't even do.

This is illegal.  They must go through all the hiring steps or they could get penalized by the company.

Actually this has been common practice in ATL divison since they switched over to the core way of hiring.  We'll have some fine people come in, hard working, who then are disappeared even after the 45 probation because something came back on a background check.  It's ridiculous.
