They already have.  It's called self-checkout.

I would say perhaps. But even someone would have to program the machines to do various jobs of the depts. And thus far there are folks TOO lazy, to even do their jobs now. I doubt, for most they wouldn't even want to press one button to get the machines going.

I don't get it!! They would take away so many peoples jobs. Then no one would be able to pay their bills or go to the stores to buy anything. Everyone would get fat and lazy! Doesn't sound smart to me. Sounds like stupidity!

I don't see it ever happening 100%. Not in my lifetime anyway.

Kroger has a bunch of stuff like that in the works already not to mention other things like Krogers self-service, touch-screen deli ordering system for the service deli. they don't even have anyone working the counter you put your order in a ticket comes out you come back 10 mins later and pick it up. just because it's not happening in your stores yet don't mean it'll never happen

I don't think that is really taking away anyone's job in the deli, because they're still making the orders... if anything that just makes their job easier (at least in theory, i've never seen it used in person)

It eliminates jobs. First it rliminates hours through efficiency, then it eliminates jobs through attrtion. That is the goal of AI.

They're working on it.  It's just slow and expensive.  Self checkout and CAO is just the start of it.

There's still "Scan, Bag, Go", "Advantage Checkoutout", and electronic shelf tags.  And whatever new stuff is still under wraps.

RFID checkout is still be too expensive, but in 10 years maybe.

Yeah, and it must have really sucked for the milkmen and elevator operators.  Such is progress.  Besides, don't you understand the Kroger way?  It doesn't matter how bad things get for the employees as long as the shareholders are happy.

I give it 10-15 years before we see robots really taking over jobs at Kroger. I think that AI's aren't necessarily complex enough right now to properly handle all of the issues that need to be solved by human employees. But as time passes it will definitely happen.

Let's see self-driving cars FIRST, and THEN, we can talk Kroger jobs!

I still am undecided/ambivalent on the first one...
