no music!

for the past week they haven't been playing music over the radio at my store. i can't express how soothing it is to work in complete silence. i feel like the nights go by faster when i don't have to hear "love you like a love song" by selena gomez 400 times. i'm pessimistic about it them keeping it turned off for much longer, but i'm basking in the glory of it until then.

Lucky you.

In the glorious, "Big 12", they are still blasting the grating Father's Day commercial . . . the Tuesday after Father's Day.

Really, we need someone with a sound meter to come measure this racket. The volume level x eight hours exposure could be adding up to damage . . . beyond the psycho-emotional damage.

I'm pretty jealous.  Some of my favorite Kroger memories (there's but a few) are power outages disabling all but essential systems.  Apparently including certain conveyor belts.  But mostly store audio.

I've discussed with a favorite courtesy clerk how many shotshells it would take to disable an appropriate amount of speakers.  It's really quite a lot, especially compared to disabling customers.  Definitely too many (depending on time of day).  I'd like to think a high capacity semiautomatic rifle would be more effective.  Especially if entrances and emergency exits were blocked.

I don't think the racket generated by store audio anywhere approaches what is physically damaging.  Nowhere near what is generated by the Catalina printers.  That stuff is going off right in my gosh-darned ear.  And a lot of them aren't even coupons.  And it's all day.

I've had a lot of Kroger nightmares.  They occasionally offer gunfire, but not customer deaths.  I'd like to think that's a good thing.

I'd take the music over the "live" performances we have at our store most days. This last one was an Elvis impersonator type. And good lord was he blaringly loud. And kept trying to draw various customers into his spiel. I was dying as I was the only one on closing and was located across the way nearest the bar.

LOL and WTF at an Elvis Impersonator! Were they hawking peanut butter & banana cupcakes???

As for Kroger music, I concor with the Nightcrewzombie about Selena Gomez. I'm also really tired of "We Could be Heroes" and "Headphones On" and any depressing breakup song, regardless of age of the song or the artist.

One of the night crew guys at my store told me that they use to be able to turn off the "canned" music, and play Death Metal during their shifts. Management put an end to it when some old fart who was shopping at 5 : 30 am complained.

i almost chuckle every time they play "welcome to my life" by simple plan, because the lyrics perfectly describe how i feel working at kroger....too bad they play it 40 times a night so it wears paper thin on my psyche.

Nada. Would have made since if we were. But nope, I don't know where they find these people. But we often get "live music" Thursdays when they can fit it into the budget. And it sucks so bad as it's always so freaking loud and not that great versions of cover songs either.

Elvis really got on my nerves though when a customer was asking me for the umpteenth time where the Angel Food cakes were. And I was trying to tell her, and he was not only "singing" so loud but he was trying to do this little shoulder shimmy against her side. I just took a really wide side step away from the pair of them. It's like you aren't going to assault ALL my senses in one night. Making me deaf and going in for some bodily contact too. Geesh.

Well, damn. I would find that INCREDIBLY obnoxious as a customer. I guess your customers enjoy the Elvis dude, somehow?

I should really be tired of hearing "The Middle" by Jimmy Eat World, but I can't help but love it. Takes me back to high school.

Maybe I'm turning into an old fart lol.

He had a fan club of older ladies and even the customer I was trying to help was doing a little dance with him too. But still just no.

And the song I truly can't stand(can't even think of the name of it right now), but if anybody has seen the movie Cruel Intentions, the first one. Where Reese Witherspoon was driving the convertible at the end with the journal on the passenger seat. It's that one, that "tries" and fails miserably at playing on our radio and it never fully plays out as it gets stuck on the middle part and gets all these weird clicking sounds in the middle of it for some reason. Not sure why, but it always does without fail. Soooo annoying.
