So got back from kroger after getting my orientation information. 9-1 Saturday. Mom mad because of that. She said I need to drive. I was like uh yeah I do. I need to practice. I don t have my driver's license. My family is going out of town over the holiday and I might have to work over the 4th of July weekend because it would be no fair to the other employees working there for a new hire to get it off and it's a holiday. My mom told me to tell them. It's kroger they will schedule me no matter what. I shouldn't of went back if this is gonna interfere with my plans but I need money but I don't drive. I feel screwed right now.
I haven't even started and I want to change my mind about working there. It's gonna be a hassle. I could try requesting it off idk but since it's a holiday it's a slim chance and I have no seniority so. Any advice ? What should I do? Straight out tell them?
Hmm... so can you drive legally at all yet? Why is your mom telling you to drive if you aren't legally able to?
If you have to, just tell management you can't work July 4th weekend. If you get fired, which I highly doubt as Kroger can barely keep any new hires to begin with, oh well, you haven't even started working and already don't want to work so you probably would be a bad employee to begin with. You are a classic example of young people being so lazy but still entitled.
No I am not. You are a classic example of a bitter old timer. I worked my butt off for almost 4 years at this company. They wouldn't of hired me back if I was "lazy" and not a good worker. I work hard for what I have and saving up for a car. It is just a matter of transportation for me right now. I ask for advice and get a nasty response from you.

The way you wrote your post made me think you were a high school student

Are you in the same dept. you were in before you left? If so, are you still friendly enough with any one in that dept. that you could possibly car pool with to work those days your family is out of town?
Also, out of curiosity, is your mom mad your missing the vacation? Or mad that you aren't driving to be able to go to work on your own. So she doesn't have to cancel the trip, so someone can take you?
P.P.S. If the car pool idea doesn't appeal. Is there any public transportation where you live that you could take? I mean it might be pricey for a weekend. But sometimes have to do what you have to. In order to get where you need to go sometimes.
No I'm not. I'm was working in the front end before I left. Gave my two weeks in and left on a good note. I decided to go back because the new job wasn't working out. I still have this job and am having second thoughts about Kroger. I don't want to leave three or two weeks into being rehired. Especially under 90 day probation but I need a transportation to get there. My mom's advice "call out. So what if they fire you? You have a job still at the other place". That wouldn't look good to future employers if I took that route. I applied for the job and need to be depended on. I need money. I haven't started yet and already dreading. Ive Iost sleep over this situation. I only live 8 minutes from the store and would hate to lose the job. They are were very good to me and I don't want to leave on bad terms. I couldn't use the previous four years I worked there on a resume could I? It wouldn't look good for me. I feel I made a mistake and hoping they understand. I set my availability and everything for days I can't work because of the other job. Should I explain my situation to them? Before I start or would they just tell me to leave and not even bother training me. I had good work ethic before I left (still do) and don't want to screw them over. They all said I was a hard worker. Just struggling to work to jobs was a bad move on my part.
Oh also she is mad because of me not driving and them sheduleing me. My temps expried.
The thing is here my HR manager told me I have to at least work one day of the weekend but I won't have a ride so I'm pretty much screwed. I understand our department head needs help so I guess I'm going to have find a a way to work. I want to be a good employee. When I applied I had it set to no weekends and I still got hired on. I have a feeling they will be working me outside my availability when I have another job to go to. I honestly think my best bet is to try to find a way to work and stick with it for a while what I can and decide my options.
BTW sorry for the long post and thanks for understanding. This a rough decision for me.
HR never even called me back about putting me on the shedule so I wonder if they already decided to terminate me? Because of my availability? Don't know but it seems weird to me. Probably should call them.
Okay for one calm down. Don't overly stress about this. I thought you lived much farther away. But as your only about 8 mins from your store. Why not just get up a little earlier and walk there and ask someone for a ride home for the next few days? I think that is what the majority of the folks that are on night crew or that live close by do. Heck, even before getting a car, my one friend in Deli would ride her bike to work everyday. But that was because she lived right behind the Wal-mart that is literally a little ways down the rode from our Marketplace. So wasn't too much of a hardship.
