Well, our store has a "Bulk Foods" section. And yesterday I happen to have a customer come through my line with some bags of cashews and other high priced nuts with pre-printed labels on them. Now, the funny thing is, they were priced as peanuts (which I think are around $3 or $4 a pound). I know for a fact that, the cashews there are $9 a pound. So, I'm not really sure if the customer was an idiot or just really sneaky, hoping I wouldn't notice. Is that considered theft? I didn't really even know what to say to the customer, or if I should have gotten a supervisor.
I'm sure lots of worse stuff happens at our store, but this one particular thing is what I noticed right in front of me.
Yes, it is theft. I would have said, "Oh, you accidentally priced these cashews as peanuts. I'll have to have someone re-weigh them so they scan right."
Agreed. Just be nice about it. I would just say something along the lines of, Oh did you mean to get cashews or peanuts? Even saying something like, Sorry, it just confused me for a second, will keep the situation diffused. If they argue paying the correct price then call for a manager. Sometimes it's truly a mistake while sometimes it is someone thinking they are slick.
Yes because they placed another price tag on it. There are several layers of thrift and the make it right program needs to go because it's causing the company huge product lost. We have a couple customers that read books then return them a day or two later for another one. They do this because "used library books creep them out." This is a form of theft as well.
