just heard today about a cashier who everyone liked and always got positive OSAT reviews getting fired for using 1089 (the PLU for coupons and specials) excessively. That was kinda shocking to me. I use the code whenever a coupon doesnt go through and the order matches all the requirements, or honestly when I don't feel like reading the fine print on the coupon. I'm definitely going to be more careful with coupons, etc now but it seems like there would need to be some kind of warning from management before just being terminated. I try and use price override whenever there is a price discrepancy so I can give a reason for changing the price instead of just comping the price with 1089 but is that any better than using 1089? Any advice is appreciated

Also kind of a gray area is price overrides for misplaced items. I can see how it would be frustrating for a customer to think a misplaced item on a shelf is one price only for it to be another at the register and think it is a good use of "make it right" functionality to make it the price they thought it was but I can just as easily see how a customer would say "OH well i thought this was so and so price because they put it in the wrong spot" for any item they want a price cut on

That happened to an otherwise competant and well-liked cashier too.

They were warned ONCE to stop doing it by management, and continued to do it to the point of a loss of 2,000 dollars a week. They were just doing it for random people (lopping 15 dollars off of orders just because the customer didn't find something they want. That's not how "Make It Right" is suppose to work)

After that they were "suspended indifinitely/fired". Although they were well liked by customers and had a decent ring tender most of the time, they openly expressed dislike of the job. I think they did something extreme like that bbecause they WANTED to get fired.

The ex-cashier in question became a server at Denny's. They still come in to shop and even before getting the job they seemed happy to be fired.

Best advice I can give is ask your STORE MANAGER directly about price overrides and where to draw the line, because that varies from store to store. Do what management says to the best of your ability and if they call you upstairs about an issue, just stop doing whatever they're complaining about.
