For the past couple of weeks, the File Main. head has been training me because their newly hired backup quit. One day, a manager pulled me aside and told me to learn as much as I could because the head was moving to receiving and that it would be a full time position. After that convo, another manager asked me if I liked the dept. and that I would be a great fit for the position. A few days later, I hear that the Frozen dept head may be taking the File Main position so that someone from the Grocery dept could be the Frozen dept head.
The bid was finally posted the end of last week. Only the Frozen dept head and I signed it. I thought that I might have had a chance but today I found out that Frozen dept head was the backup in File Main before they became head of Frozen. I went to the manager who first pulled me aside and asked them if I should still do the interview because I heard that the Frozen dept head might get the position. They said "Oh my gosh, why is everybody saying that?! Yes, still do the interview. The interview has a point system." They also said that its based off knowledge and education. I've only been working in the department 2-3 days out the week for about 3-4 weeks so I definitely don't have enough experience but a few managers are telling me to go for it. They all continously tell me how great of a worker I am and how well I adapt to different departments and situations. The interview for the position is next week. What is the interview like and what kind of questions do they ask? Lastly, do you think I have a chance, based on what was stated above?
Additional Info
-Worked with the store last summer for 3 months, left because I was going off to college. I went from Courtesy Clerk to Drug/GM backup within first 3 weeks of working.
-Successfully operated the Drug/GM dept by myself (other person in the dept quit right before the head went on vacation) for a week while the head was on vacation
-I just came home from school. I've been working with the store since the end of May. I plan on taking strictly online classes with my college for a year which means I won't be leaving until next August.
Go for it... The worst that can happen is you don't get it and you stay in your current position. If you do get it its a nice paycheck every week. Sounds like management likes you. You must be a hard worker. That's the first step.
