Not sure.  I am a grocery department head.  I get stressed out sometimes.

Grocery (Dairy, nutrition, center store and frozen) bring in 40 % of sales at my store.

When we go to Order Evolution, there is supposed to be less manual ordering.

The hardest part is being overwhelmed by large trucks and lack of qualified energetic help.  I have a lot of bodies to work with but most don't care if the work gets done or not.  No self motivation.  No ambition in life.

Only 4 out of 12 of us like doing backstock.  Running backstock often helps keep the orders manageable.  As soon as I think I have enough people to get some backstock ran, someone or two decide to call in.  That sets us in a tailspin.  Everyone has to work extra hard to get everything finished and blindly ordering extra product because we don't know if it is on backstock or not.  Some people have crappy work ethics and attitudes.  That is what makes the job stressful.

The job of every department head can be stressful based on many factors including size of store, amount of sales, number of employees, speed of employees, how strict your store management is, etc.

It's not easy if you care about your department.

in my store, there is no Grocery Lead, its the GOM (Grocery Ops Manager who is salaried management and is 4th in command of the store, as well as being the one officially leading the Grocery Dept, and can give instructions if necessary to other employees from other Depts just as an Assistant Manager / HR manager / Store Director would.) and the CSL who are in charge of the Dept (Center Store Lead, aka Night Lead / MOD for second n third shift, 2nd shift CSL will transition at 11pm with the third shift CSL who will work til 7am when core store management comes in at 6am)

As stated, Grocery Manager n CSL are both store management level, and thus, are not union. Grocery Manager is salaried management while CSLs are hourly management but are not union. All depts except for grocery have a Lead / dept head who is union.

Oh believe me, Ops manager doesn't much mind it. He's in charge of both grocery and is management (salaried and able to boss the store if needed. That ain't a bad gig for being in "grocery") Center store leads don't mind either, as hey just because they are hourly management, they still have the ability to say "f you, get out or I am trespassing you from the store, and we can simply wait for the cops" to a nasty custy, as well as having the ability to send employees home if need be. So even though they are hourly, they are still management level as they are store key holders and are the ones who call the shots at night.

Since it's management, assistant managers n store director ignore Grocery at night, and just generally don't care. Unless we have a visit from Corpo coming, then we all bust but in all depts to make everything shine. This makes working in Utility funnnnnnn during those times.
