Making up days you missed

Had a quick question, which I'll be calling about on Monday, to confirm. But yea, I was just wondering since I got sick Wed night into early Thursday morning when I was supposed to be the opener for the bakery. I texted, called(just about everybody I had a number to), and even had a family member write up a letter for me not being able to make it in. As it turns out I had some kind of stomach virus most likely from one of the Deli subs that was either not cool enough in my lunch box(not sure how as I had a ice pack right on it. Unless it wasn't as reliable as I thought) or from the meat itself, or so my Doc felt after I came back from my appointment on Thursday. She even gave me an excuse and saying I needed the weekend off to recover a bit more(and thank the lord for it. I'm not 100% but kind of at a 95, if I don't do too much bending). And by some miracle, things held off long enough for me to make it to the store and give em my doc note about the days off(loved the one store manager telling me to stay the hell away from her after I told her what was up. Kept my humor and said wished I could stay the hell away from myself too. But really?)

Well prior to my doc appointment, the deli back up finally got back into contact with me and was asking if I could make up for Thursday on Friday(shorter hours and if I could make it but didn't have to). And I told her I would call her back after the doc appt. Well I wasn't feeling that awesome after the appt. Just enough will to give em the doc note and lurch out of there before I threw up. So I'm sure she has been informed that I wouldn't be able to cover Friday plus the extended the days off.

So since Friday has passed. Would I still have to make up for missing Thursday? Or did the only chance I have to make it up was that week, as I'll be back for next week's schedule?

I don't work your department, but it's always been my understanding that there is never any obligation for an ill/healing employee to "make up" for lost time, just to have their absences excused with a valid doctor's note.

I think the "make up" option was merely offered to you as a courtesy (a chance to make SOME amount of money, so you don't fall to behind on bills.) But by no means should that be mandatory.

All of those hours that were for you went to the coworkers who covered for your shifts.

Oh and I know from experience that stomach virus/food poisoning is the worst ever, so hope you feel better.

Thanks Lane Hardy and I really hope that is the case. As I was totally not good to anybody on those days, least of all myself.

Be glad to get my stomach back to normal and move on from this. I'll also be staying away from lunch meats for a long while again too.

Update: At the insistence of my dad(very old school worker and staying on top of things type of person that he is). I called my Deli manager today and asked her about making up for today that I missed. Welp, as things would go and after asking if I was contagious or not. And if I was feeling better. We deduced that I'd make up for the start of this week tomorrow(which technically was my day off/return to work date as well).

But being Kroger, she tried to push a bit to see if I could come in today(to which I told my dad, is why I wanted to wait til tomorrow to call them. As they want bodies and things RIGHT now. Not tomorrow). Thankfully though I told her I couldn't cause none of my work stuff was clean just yet. And she agreed to tomorrow. Although I think the store manager wanted me to check with my doctor about getting a return to work note. But my doc put on the one I brought them already the days I needed off and I can have a beverage of my choice when I come back as needed(going for some vitamin water lately to help with the electrolytes).

And I'm guessing aside from losing one of my days off, I'll be able to keep my regular schedule.
