I'm obviously getting the run-around.

Anyone who reads my posts knows that I was told, several months ago, I would be getting the Lead position in the Deli. I've been told several stories on why it hasn't happened. I wrote a letter of interest about 4 weeks ago. The letter of Interest obviously, didn't do any good. I have been trying for over 4 months. I've seen several others move up (Lead positions), with little effort and in less time, in those months. I'm obviously getting the run-around. If I'm not getting the position why can't they just say it? It may hurt my feelings at first, but I'll get over it. JUST TELL ME THE TRUTH! It's hurting me more feeling like I'm being lied to, just so I won't quit! I'm about to quit just because no one is doing what they say they are going to do.

You need your deli manager and store manager to sign off on your training to get your interview with the coordinator. Find out which one doesn't think you're ready. More than likely they are just trying to squeeze free work and responsibility out of you as long as they can. But yea, if you do quit, there's no shortage of deli management positions available lol.

They supposedly already signed off, spoke with coordinator, etc. Nothing is happening though. Yeah there is a shortage when there is no one  else who wants to do the job or is qualified.

Well, by sign off, I mean in your actual training packet with the official page you take to your interview with the signatures. As for shortage, I meant MANY other retailers NEED Deli managers, there is a huge shortage for Deli managers because of the high turnover. So you could take your experience and get hired in as a lead at another competitor and not get the run-around. I was in a similar situation as you, I had trained as a deli manager and then promoted to produce manager. While scouting other management jobs, the one thing I always noticed was the large amount of deli management positions available (for good reason, deli is an unforgiving department). Deli has a massive turnover for clerks, and the highest turnover for management (my deli would go through multiple clerks a month, a lead every 3-4 months assuming we were lucky enough to get a lead).

When I talk to other stores and Leads they say what you are saying. I'm hearing all this stuff about the process in becoming Lead, but when I talk to my store managers I hear the total opposite. They are saying they don't know what I'm talking about. I keep getting told I'm going to be the Lead, I'm on the list, they are working on it, there's a process, etc. Like I said I believe I'm being lied to because they don't want me to quit. I just want the truth.

Ever hear of the expression, "Why buy the cow when you can get the milk for free"?  Most people associate it with shacking up without being married, but the basic meaning is why pay for something when you can get it for free.  In other words, why should Kroger pay you a lead's wages when they can get you to do the work without being compensated?  I'm the senior most employee in my department after the department head, but I absolutely refuse to be put in charge of anything or anybody.  If someone asks who's in charge and the department head isn't there, I  say nobody.  If someone else says I'm in charge, I quickly correct them.

This, pretty much. Don't take the responsibility of being a manager without being paid for it (unless you have set plans and goals being followed in your training packet). I assume you never got your training packet, though? As I recall, I think Deli only gets 1 packet but at the end of the packet there should be a page requiring your department head and store manager to sign off that you've completed your training and are capable of running the department, which then will allow you to set up an interview with your coordinator. Simply show them this page. I'd also try to talk with your coordinator directly, as they're the ones that actually promote you to the position. The list, process, etc., that's all bull****. The truth is they're more than likely stringing you along for free manager work and scapegoat for when things go wrong (hello temp logs, bad workers, health department criticals). Unfortunately, this happens VERY frequently. It's probably policy to save on labor, like OT.

Sounds like me: Kroger will not really advance me much above cashier.  My prior store would/will not let me go above it at all due to the fact of my disability.  They didn't think I was capable of the position or like my learning style and wanted to deal with a slower learning individual.  Didn't even want to deal with a dshs job coach.  Even though they didn't have to do any of  the work.  Just kept saying "That sounds expensive."  or "That sounds slow and difficult."  or kept sugar coating "We don't think you're capable of the position."  Fully knowing I would do all the paperwork for them and all they would have to do is work around a dshs job coach.  I transferred stores and they noticed how capable and knowledgeable I was and allowed me to fill in fes and considering making me full time fes.  I highly suggest to get the union involved.  I find a lot of times store promotions go to favorites, fast learners or males.

I highly suggest getting the union involved if they don't take you seriously.  According to labor laws they can not discriminate against you for any reason.  Or hold you back for selfish reasons.

I think it's time for you to put in applications elsewhere, preferably at one of their competitors.  Once you're hired on somewhere else, I would be tempted to not even give Kroger two weeks notice.

You will never be paid. Forget about the job. It is not real. You can work as hard as you want, but they will never pay you. All these department leads. Maybe half are being paid. The rest are getting lied to. If you have been in the same lead role for 10 years then you are being paid right. Anyone else is being used.

If you still like Kroger transfer to a different Kroger store
